Gibson Exhaust long term eval

When I bought my 2000 Frontier first thing I installed for it was a Gibson Aluminized single/in-out muffler and it sounded great with a little boost in performance. But now after all these years there is a buzzing sound coming from inside the tailpipe when hitting a certain RPM. At first I thought the exhaust pipes were hitting something underneath or heat sheild coming loose,not the case. So does this mean the muffler is going bad? Anyone else have a similar problem with Gibsons? Thanks in advance.

prolly needs to be repacked. the rattle may also be your cat converter.

What I can remember about this type of muffler it has baffles,all metal
but the Catalytic conv could be at fault??

ya, same thing happened on my prelude. had a wierd rattle at certain RPM's. material inside the cat would break off and do it. course yours could be somethin else so who knows.

I had a similar thing happen with my 94 Ranger, but it was one of the brackets on a heat shield that had broken and would rattle at certain RPMs. I had the aluminized Gibson single on my F-150 and never experenced any problems. I can't recall exactly, but doesn't that system have a 10 year warranty? If it is something loose within the Muffler, they should do something to fix it, or replace the muffler. This time around I went with the Banks Monster Exhaust, it's a stainless steel system and carries a lifetime warranty. Is there any way you could get up under the truck and have a buddy rev the engine to the rpm that produces the rallte and see if you can determine if it's coming from the CAT or the Exhaust?

Well I used a rubber mallet and bang on the muffler. There was sound like dirt/gravel inside. Dont know if it came from the Cat or if the muffler has rusted from the inside. I think I ll try to unbolt it from the Cat and see whats up. Has anyone ever returned a old muffler still under warranty before?? Thanks for all the inputs.
