Question Sub Enclosure

I wouldn't mind having a subwoofer setup that is more substantial than the one I have in my 05 SE KC. It's very compact one under the passenger seat.
I'm not looking for the earth shaking audio laxative type of sub, but a more natural sound from my music. However I don't want to sacrifice any interior space such as having a box sitting on the floor eating up space. I like the hidden look for components.

So I got to thinking and did a bit of prelimnary measuring. The area below the rear speakers in the suicide doors, the cupholder area, could be cut out and using some MDF board and fabric to cover it, I think you could put an 8" sub in one or both doors. The board holding the sub could be screwed into the door frame and with some attention, such as getting it level with the surrounding cut out door panel, I think this could work. The fabric would cover the MDF and match the color of the interior trim. The amp could be located under the passenger seat.

I'm just in the idea stage and may pursue this further next spring... I'd like a few thoughts on this because it may or may not work.

I had an 89 toy xtra cab and built enclosures in the area your talking about. It didn't have the door to deal with but using cardboard as a starter I was able to create boxes inside the panel. go online and look up how to build speaker enclosures so you know how much area you will need. for a 10" I think its like 1.2 cubic ft.

You mean something like this?

These 6.5" subs are supposed to sound real good for their size. I have not heard them yet, but have them installed in the doors of my '05 SE KC.

I will be changing this up a bit, and recessing the subs a bit and fabricating grills for them.

As for 8" , with the bracing in the doors it will be hard to fit more than these 6.5" subs. There is not a lot of air space in there.

Did you make the panel for the sub or is it something from a retailer? If you made it I'd like to know how you did it and what you used. Does the speaker have a cover to protect it?
