when a friend and i did a mini-me swap on his 97 civic (i know evil hondas blah blah blah) our only real trouble was with the timing chain and gears etc. from my experience any insignificant chance of that chain slipping and it will. if the timing is insanely off, i'd say thats the first place to go about trying to resolve the problem. get the tensioner fixed then try again if not, manually crank the car to top dead center, let everything settle then try to start it again. thats what we did when we had probs. best of luck timing gears and chains are a biatch
