I assumed this Nissan website and the members in this website could help me figure out what was wrong with the tranny in my 1993 Nissan 2wd pick-up, I posted several threads and got pleanty of viewers but no reponceses to the threads I posted.
I guess if the threads were about stupid car amps, stereos and subwoofers and or Silverstar headlight bulbs I would have gotten some replies. Well any way I swapped the tranny out with another one and it works something internally must have broke that caused me to loose all gearing in the old tranny.
Would have tried but I know of no fixes or tricks. All I know is when it goes clunk and doesn't move it aint a good sign.
Something that may help with your posts in the future (IMO). Try bumping your original thread rather than creating new ones about the same problem. You will likely get a response faster. A bump can be something as simple as replying to your own post with the word "bump". A new thread does not get the same attention as one that has been bumped.
This approach helped me and I received a response only after one bump.
I would have thought that the 46 replies on the first thread were enough to help you out or let you know what level of expertise is out here on this site. I'm sure you are well aware that of the over 1000 parts in your automatic transmission exactly 0 are our (members) responsibility. I guess you would prefer us ramble on and on about "stupid car amps, stereos and subwoofers and or Silverstar headlight bulbs " in lieu of a real answer. I like to think that if someone doesn't have an answer for me, they won't just BS one and lead me astray. I like to think that if someone can't give me a strait answer then they'll just keep their mouth shut. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I should think that when folks don't freely, quickly, and effectively diagnose one of the more complex issues in the automotive realm, that they just hate me and want me to go away. But no, I feel that the sane thing to do is to be happy for the help I get, and to BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OWN VEHICLE, instead of whining when the world won't fix my problems for me. A.K.A. the world won't wipe my ass for me, I have to do it myself; and yes, some times I gets crap on my hands (motor oil in this case).
If we can't fix your problems here, then you have to go get it done in the real world. Remember that? The real world, the one where you bought a truck from your buddy at work and he sold it to you as a known fixer-upper. The same one who didn't tell you how to fix the tranny because he didn't know how to himself. Yet you still bought the truck.
Do us all a favor and think about what you say and to whom you are saying it, preferably before you say it.
I have to agree! A transmission is a very complex piece of equipment, and even if I were an ASE Certified Master Mechanic (which I'm not), I doubt I could diagnose your transmission problems by reading your post! Most mechanics (and my son-in-law is an ASE Certified Mechanic, so I can say this with some certainty), won't even attempt it without having the vehicle in their shop to see, hear and experience the symptoms you describe. Don't believe me, call the Nissan Service Department or any other reputable Garage next time you have a major problem, describe the symptoms, and see what they say! $100.00 says they tell you to bring it in and they'll take a look at it! I was probably one of those viewers who read your post, but without an answer, I too, figured I couldn't have been much help! Had I actually posted a reply, my suggestion would have been to take it to a reputable mechanic and have it checked out! Of course, this probably wasn't the answer you were looking for, because you probably wanted to fix it your self if possible, so I saved you and me time by not posting a reply! There is a big difference between diagnosing a major mechanical problem and discussing after market plug in mods! Forums are more appropriate for the later! Sorry for the hard feeling! Hope you have good luck with your new transmission!

Once in a while we get someone selfish like yourself that thinks just because they joined this forum they are owed something. This is a community of volunteers helping each other out. You were not owed a response to your post. Did it ever occur to you that perhaps your question was too vague or complex for anyone to reply? Look around. You'll notice there are other people that didn't receive any replies to their threads either. The members here can't always help. This place is no replacement for a qualified mechanic if you don't know how to fix your truck.
So rag on the forum and the people here all you want for not responding to you. It won't help.
I am sorry that you feel as you do. I have started quite a few new post and a lot of them have been answered, but
there have been a few where there was little or no response.
Yes I was disappointed when I did not receive a response,
but I figured it was something no one was able to help me with. If I can help someone I will respond to them as I have been helped numerous times. If on the other hand I
am unable to help I'll just sit on the sidelines and hope that someone else can help.
There are a lot of well informed, nice people on this forum
and they have generously shared their knowledge and ex-
periences with me time after time.
Good luck, please don't be mad and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Like others have said, I didn't post because I had nothing to contribute (except condolences). I've only "dug into" an automatic transmission once and that was a Chevy TH350 and I only went as deep as removing the valve body (to put in a "shift kit"). I belonged to a Corvette forum back then and there was some help/advice offered, but if Ihadn't gotten a book on the TH350 from the local library I never would have figured out where a screen filter, that fell out when I removed the valve body, belonged. All I could do in your case would be to make guesses from that transmission experience to yours (like maybe a damaged vacuum modulator which your trans probably doesn't even have) which would probably have been a waste of time.
Anyway, I hope you realize that the "Great & Powerful OZ" doesn't reside here, but there is a very, very good knowledge base and some very helpful folks (hence the 240 owner being helped). You obviously have mechanical skills if you swapped out your trans; hopefully you'll be there to help someone when they need information relating to a trans swap.
Are you going to open up the old trans and see if you can figure out what went wrong?

Well put! I have to work with a couple of guys that have the same attitude as C. Whitey. Makes me hate my job sometimes.
Well, I guess I was right. If we (the members) have something to say we go right ahead and say it. I hope by now that you've gotten the idea that complaining to us works, but complaining about us just gets us all riled up.
Good luck with that new tranny buddy, I hope it keeps one more of these great old trucks on the road.
Only as complete moron would complain about lack of free advice on any forum. Why hang your last hopes on a bunch of people with talent unknown to you when you could easily go to a factory trained mechanic of proven ability.
You're not only a cheapskate, but a stupid one at that.
I knew if I posted something negitive, someone, if they were out there would post a reply !
Let me explain myself, I'm a very intellectual ,mechanacally inclined person, I've been taking things apart and putting thing back togeather from the age of 5. My father was the type that got really pissed off when I would take something that wasant broken apart just to put it back togeather he would often take it away from me and throw it in the trash.
Well any way I'm now 33 years old and I still enjoy this same hobby of dismantling objects that don't work and repairing them. No I'm not a cheepskate, and why should I pay someone else my hard earned monies to fix something that I can fix myself ? I've read some horror stories on this website about fix it garages and the monies people have paid to not have things fixed. Those repair manuals, yes I bought one, Chilton, Haynes they offered no solution to or how to repair my old transmission out of that 93 Nissan pick-up. So I relied on you Nissan owners out there hooping someone out there had a simular problem that I could take a look at mine and say yep that the problem.
hopefully you harsh repliers now have a better understanding of me .
