Installing a factory SC on a nonfactory SC frontier!
I have found many superchargers for sale on ebay and I was wondering what I would have to do to convert/install a supercharger on my 2002 3.3L 4x2 frontier. What parts would I need to buy and how much boost would it be able to withstand. Has anyone did this installation and could give me any tips. Either way thanks in advance!

I've never done it or heard of anyone doing it (I have a 4-cyl), but I gave a quick look through my service manual (there are some pages that I can try to save as PDFs or JPGs if you're interested) and I would think, probably among many other things, you're going to have to deal with:
a new intake tube
maybe a new throttle body
new throttle linkage
a bypass valve
maybe changes to your belt tensioner
a new belt
hopefully the other pulleys are the same
I didn't see it in the SM, but are these things oiled via the crankcase oil?
I have no idea if they use the same internals on the SC models versus the non-SC models; I would think so but you never know. I can try to dig around for boost levels in my SM; I wouldn't push it much beyond what the factory SC boost is.
Sorry, I doubt this is very helpful. Hopefully, someone with some SC experience or at least someone who has fiddled with the factory SC will chime in. If you can think of any info or diagrams you'd like to see from my '04 SM let me know.

I have thought about all of those things but the main problem that I am worried about is if the SC frontiers has a different computer? Mass air flow sensor? Internals? Hood clearance? Vacuum lines? Pullies? Etc... Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to get the SM for both of the frontier engines? Maybe if I were to talk to someone who makes Nissan pergormance parts maybe they would know? Up to the top....
Check the electronics and check on the engines compression ratio. If the compression ratio is lower on the SC version, then you have different internals. If the ratio's are the same, well, you may still have different internals, but the computers may just have different chips. You can call up Napa or Autozone and ask for part numbers on things like pistons, connecting rods. crank shaft, big and little end bearings. Compare part #'s for both versions of the same year. Worst case, you can look for an after market blower and just see what all they come with to get an idea of what all you'll need.
Good luck
Johnny
Found my answer on another forum. THANKS for all your help!!!

Forget it!! I talked with a nissan service advisor, you will have to reprogram the ECU, change the injectors, change the compression ratio, change the fan belt, and your gas milage will decrease. If you still want to do this have a professional do it. My advisc, sell the 2000 DR and get a Frontier with the SC in it, or better yet get a 2005 fronty
There is a guy, I think in Ga, or Ky that does TC and SC mods to this engine...
He used to post quite often in the various Nissan forums...
I haven't seen him for a while, but he used the word "King" in his handle...and it was about 3-4 words long...it was an "unusual" name to be used in a post...if you see it, it will "stick out"...
If you go back about a year and start looking thru various posts, you might find him...
I talked to him about a year or so ago...he quoted me $3500 to TC my 4 banger...he had a kit already to go...I saw lots of pix of several conversions he had done for clients and it looked very nice...
It looked like a decent back yard mechanic could do this in a weekend...and perpaps the most difficult was you have to take your oilpan off, and weld a metal tube into it such that the blower could dump oil back into the pan...
Other than that, it seemed pretty much bolt on...
I decided it wasn't worth the $$$ and didn't do it, but it appears I didn';t keep any of the info he had sent...sorry about that...
Hope this helps a little...
Steve
