ABS used for traction control?

I've been driving my '05 NISMO around in the snow alot in the last month or so and I notice that it seems the ABS system is used for traction control. In both 2x4 and 4x4 mode, when wheels start slipping under acceleration, I can hear the ABS start doing its' thing.

Is this a normal form of traction control? (this is my first vehicle with anything of the sort)

On that note.....my truck didn't come with the switch to disable the traction control and I don't want to shell out a couple hundred bucks for that at the dealer. Has anyone heard of any do-it-yourself hacks to add a traction control on/off switch?

Thanks,
--Ben

that is your ABLS (antilock brake limited slips) caught my attention too, we have "electronic limited slips" that use the brakes to stop the spinning wheels and send power to the wheels with traction... and it is not "deactivated" when the VDC is turned off anyway so everything is normal i would say.

You should see the SLIP light appear, kinda blink, on the upper right hand side of the instrument panel when it activates the ABLS.

ABLS

I have had the same situation with the snow here. The ABLS is always kicking in. I know it makes noise, but the noise seems rather disturbing. Sounds like plastic gears grinding terribly. Is that normal?

What's the difference between ABS and ABLS? Any good URL's explaining the difference?

Thanks,
