Limiter at 95? WTF?

So, my 01 Desert Runner XE kicks out at 95 mph..wtf? I know the tires are probably not rated for it, but 95?!

Did it just run out of juice, or did it really start to shut you down. Describe this experience in detail. I don't want to believe you.

doubt it ran out of juice, i had my 97 (4-cyl) up to 100+ (and that was on 31's so it was closer to 107). That was long ago, I dont do that sort of thing anymore...I stopped that after getting the WRX up to 125 and having plenty of pedal (and juice) left.

I did have an S-10 that was limited to 92.

Now I try to keep it witin 10mph of the speed limit. much better for gas mileage.

I have that in my wife's Nissan Xterra 2002..At 95 you get this jolt and further stepping on the gas pedal doesn't do anything at all. Kind of a safety feature and good for my wife (although she doesn't drive on freeways)..

Haven't tried it on the 2006 that I got..

alot of SUV/trucks have those, its to keep crazy leadfooted people that dont know how to drive from flipping. Regardless of what tires you have, unless you are lowered, a truck isnt able to perform emergency maneuvers at high speeds and end up flipping or spinning out horribly, likely causing an accident. Even my cousins ford crown victoria has a limiter at about 100 or so, probably for tires first and soft suspension second. Bottom line, get a car if you want to go fast, get a truck if you want to drive up a mountain or pull large cumbersome objects behind you.
