Info on "My Nissan" website....

When I got my new truck is signed up on "My Nissan" on the Nissan website for service reminders, special offers, etc. I just got back from lunch and check out the site and it has my exact milage down. How did they get this? Is my truck send them the info or can Nissan check? Can they look at the black box to see how I'm driving, the speeds I drive, where I have been...this disturbs me, it's like Big Brother!

Should I make a tin foil hat or am I being paranoid?

This is freaky....

I just checked this also and it is spot-on. How do they know this? When I created the account last Thursday (when I bought the truck, it was correct. I just now checked and it's updated as of this afternoon!

This is odd. How are they doing this?

Mine is pretty close too. don't forget that you filled out a form that estimated how much driving you do on a year basis...at least I did. It just makes a calculation. Mine is a few miles off so i don't feel so paranoid ;-)

Yep, that's probably it

Mine if off a little also, so I wonder if it just uses the mileage you told the dealer to calculate this. Will be checking regularly now, so we'll see how close it starts to be. I'm glad I didn't get a Super Black color to match the fleet of helicopters they will be sending after me...

hey guys, i wouldnt worry about it to much, its all estimated. it just happens to be that a couple of you are driving the exact miles it estimates per day. i know this because me and my g-friend work together so we car pool to work. so needless to say, i am averaging about 6,000 miles per year right now, LOL. My Nissan does not have an option for 6,000 miles a year, so i selected 7,500. and, everytime i check My Nissan, its about 200 miles above my actual. Its just an estimate based on what u selected in the drop down as average per year. Hope that makes sense.

This kind of thing will be reasonably accurate in the short term over a few months or so. However, after years and years all the little/minor/estimation errors start to add up and it will be increasingly inaccurate unless they have some way to correct the mileage.

Kind of like a Leap Year. A year is actually 365.25 days long but we ignore the error until it builds to an amount large enough that we have to do something about it.
