Bed Light....

is there a way to turn it off so it doesn't come on each time I unlock or open a door? I end up turning it off at the dash but the next time a door is opened it comes back on.

Wensk,

Yes there is. Someone on the forum told me how to do it.
When you open your door turn the light switch to the off position and presto the light goes out.

I leave my switch in the off position all of the time so I have to turn it on and then turn it off again and it does the trick.

This has to be done every time that your light goes on. It is not a one time fix.

I am so thankful for all of the smart people on this forum that help out those of us who haven't gotten it all figured out yet.

OkieScot

you may be able to open up the interior light, or even just the switch. Then figure out wich wire goes to the inerior light and which one goes to the bed. the switch should have 4 cnnecting poles, Ground, off, the one that is wired to the door (often called "auto"), and one that is wired to only operate on the manual switch (for when you reach up to turn the lights to full on). Dont be too worried if there are only 3 poles, as the lights may be grounded individually. Once you find the wire for the bed light, just detach it fron the "auto", or door pole and install it on the manual pole. you may need to just clip the wire and piggyback it on the main wire running off of the manual switch. also check out the wiring diagram for that switch in you shop manual.

Good luck
Johnny

Excellent! I'll have my electronics expert (hubby) look into it. He's the one bothered by it I don't have a shop manual though but might just have to get one.

Right, but if I don't let him do what he's good at, why keep him around....LOL

Thanks a bunch. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I installed an override switch for this. If you pull up the molding at the base of the passenger side door (the plastic strip on the floor of the truck beside the mat), you will see a bundle of wires running to the back of the truck. One of those wires controls the bed light. I think it's green with a silver stripe, but I'm not positive. Let me know if you're interested and I'll find out for sure. I cut that wire and ran it off to a switch I mounted near the center console. For me, it was a perfect fix.

Thanks for the tips. I don't think I'm not going to let him touch the bed light afterall. I came home the other evening to a dark house and the bed light lit up the yard so I could see my way. "HE" was listening to am radio and the automatic switch on the front light gave him static.....nice...let your poor wife come home in the dark
