A few 4cyl newbie questions

i was wondering if anyone new what the final drive gear is in the 98 frontier 4cyl 5sp manual. i am hoping to get a little bit longer gears. also the intake path just plain sucks. has anyone had luck in finding an intake for these motors? also does anyone know if the 240sx cams will drop in or do i need to do some ecu work also? thanks for any help you can offer.

This guy has a 01-04 model frontier with 4cyl. He has an intake. Here is a link that I cut and pasted from a response he made in one my threads.

As far as the cams go, 240sx cams will drop right in with no mods. I'd use two 240sx exhaust cams, one for your intake, and one for your exhaust, because the exhaust cams have longer duration.

Also, check out Jim Wolf Technology, they have a set of cams with even greater lift and duration that will drop right in also, pretty pricey though, but in my opinion, they're a better investment than 240 cams with 100+ thousand miles on them. Good luck

you were saying you thought the 248 exhaust cams would be best for both the intake and exhaust? do you think there is actually any noticible difference between the 240.248 setup and the 248/248 setup?

Probably not a huge difference, especially if that's the only mod you have. It's just a common one that S14 240 owners do since the S13 had larger camshafts.

3K @ 65mph? Wow, that's wierd. Mine is 3K @ like 78mph. My cousin had his tranny regeared by a professional transmission shop, and that definitely helped his hardbody. I'm sure they could do the same with a Frontier.

it looks like the 4wd models have shorter gears than the 2wd models. http://www.courtesyparts.com/frontie...n-Frontier.pdf
if anyone with a 4cyl 4wd drive could let me know if my gears are stock or if someone has messed with them. thanks and anyone up for a differential trade?
