4x4 conversion

hey my name is wade

i just bought a 2000 4cyl xe auto with a 3in BL with 31x10.5R15 tires. it is 2wd but i want to make it 4x4. what is needed for this conversion. if yall can list me out the parts to change and average cost that will be a big help. i was thinking i could use a manual locking hub so i wouldnt have to make me a switch on the inside of my dash.

thx

I would just sell it and buy a 4x4. It would probaly be a lot cheaper. But, if you are going to spend that kind of money then I would go with a SFA and check out tomwoods for a front drive shaft, i am not sure on the exact parts you would need. Hopefuly somone else on here has more information.

It would be by far easier buying a 4WD. If you are dead set on having it done, find a professional to do the job and the cash. There is a lot precise welding and holes to be drilled. one slip and the truck is not safe to drive. It can be done and a solid axle in the front would be the least expensive of the 2. check in the 4WD mags for places that actually do these mods. most are done on vans/ambulances. They may have more info for you. My thought, trade it in for a 4WD and go from there.

OK, if you are gun ho on the idea, transfer case, front axle (easiest modification), leaf springs, front driveshaft, rear driveshaft, figure out the steering geometry, remove the entire front suspension, not sure but may need to replace exh. system, possibly change the oil pan, if you have an auto you will most likely have to change the tailshaft housing and get a shorter shaft installed in the tranny, if manual not sure but may need to do the same, longer brake lines, sway bar/link setup, can't think of anything else at the moment, average cost upwards of 4k parts and labor but this is a guess.

ok that sounds good. i thought it would be easier and less expensive to use a manual locking hub rather then an auto locking one.

how much money would i still be looking at if i got it all used
