I got the engine rattle in my 05 KC NISMO. It happens all the time when it is cold out and fades away after I drive about 10 -12 miles. It never happens when the outside temperature is above 65. It’s not a loose AC hose or a rattling skid plate. It is inside the manifold assembly. I can hear it with the hood open and my wife gunning the gas up to 2100 – 2700 rpms.
Been to the dealer 4 times. They just drive it, tell me they can’t hear the noise, and tell me to make another appointment the next time I hear it. They will not run the Consult VAIS test because my VIN number is right on the cut line. I wish they would run the test just to rule it out. The truck was built in January of 05. I know they have not even opened the hood, because they can’t hear the noise. It’s been unusually warm here in NJ, so I don’t doubt that they didn’t hear it. But, I want this to be fixed. In addition, the noise has gotten louder and my gas mileage is decreasing. I have not changed my commute or driving habits.
I need some advice on how to get this fixed. Should I call Nissan and complain about the dealer? Should I try another dealer and tell them my sob story? How about calling the BBB?
Just so you know this service department has been horrible. They installed the wrong radio, took 4 days to do the bed liner repair, and I have made multiple trips there for nothing because the repair parts hadn’t arrived. So, instead of calling me to reschedule the appointment, they just tell me the part has not arrived when I get there. AAARRGGGHH. I won’t even get into how many times they have lied to me about repairs, vehicle tests, and appointments.
Anyway I want to drive my truck through their front door. Please give me some advice on how to get this problem fixed.

Simple...find a clearing in between the Frontier LE on dubs and the Z with the ridiculous body kit...rev the engine and drop it into gear...plow through the plate glass window straight into the fat bitches office that wrote up your financing...all the while yelling "Fuck Nissan! I should have gotten a Mitsubishi Raider!"
i also have the rattle noise in my truck, i hoped it would go away with some time, but i'm at 14500 miles and it is still there just above 2000rpm's, especially noticable with slow accelleration. let me know if you find out what the problem/fix is, if i find out first, i'll post in on here also.

If it's any consulation, a cold front just went through here yesterday, and it's heading your way! The temp here today hasn't gotten above 27! So, if it's not hitting you today, it will tomorrow, and then your dealership won't have an excuse that it's not cold enough to hear the rattle! Good luck! Do any of your local TV stations have consumer advocates that go out and investigate rip-offs? That might be an option, dealerships hate negative publicity!

Thanks man.
Yes, the cold air has hit us. I'm going out in a little while for a drive. I like your news idea. there is a local paper may be helpful.
But, has anyone ever had an success complaining to nissan about a horrible dealership? Or would that just be spitting in the wind?
call nissan customer service, state your problem. they will have you take it to the dealer, if you are not happy with the dealer another one in the area. let cust ser know. when you drop the truck off make sure they have it overnight so they have a cold start in the a.m. this way they can hear it. if they find no problem get in touch with the BBB and contact cust ser again the case should not close until you are satisfied. it might be advantageous for you to be there to start the truck with the tech and ser mngr there. that way you can point out the noise. more 3 times on a same problem if you bought the truck new can be applied for the lemon law. this is a long process though. good luck...
I bought a 69 Datsun pick-up in 71 and it had no tailgate, the dealer told me he would get me one in a couple of days. When I came back he had no tailgate. After 2 weeks of this I told him I was going to park the truck in the street in front of his dealership and tell everyone who came in how sorry he was. He asked me if I was threating him and I said no, at that time a new customer was walking up to him, when I started to tell them my story he stopped me and said it would be there tomorrow. I said it better be and it was.
Go to lemonlaw.com and fill out a form and they will let you know if they can help. Its of no cost to you. They just helped me get $2,500 for my Titan brakes and they got $2,500.
I called NissanUSA as some of you guys suggested. They took down all my info and recommended another dealer in my area. I called them, told em about my problem, and made an appointment. I brought the "Engine Rattle" TSB with me. They were more than happy to listen to my crying about the oth er dealership that ingnored me and the TSB on five seperate occasions. I left the truck and they called me 2 hours later to tell me they fixed it as per the TSB, and I could pick it up after the glue had dried for a couple of hours. Too Good, a dealership that is willing to help the customer! What a concept. Truck now runs great and no more rattle. I can't wait to compose my FU letter to the former dealership with a cc to NissanUSA!
the "noise" or "rattle" is the flap in the VIAS(or VAIS, i can't remember which one) my dealer ordered my parts yesterday to do the repair work. www.nissanhelp.com has an interesting post about this very problem.
