need help installing headunit

Well I am installing my headunit in my new truck and I have a few questions...Does the little tray at the top just pop out? I ordered the installation kit from Crutchfield and it said it was for the 06 frontier so it should work. Here is a pic of it... Do you think I will be able to put the player on the bottom and leave the pocket on top? I would rather do it this way. I am just trying to figure out how I am going to get the Headunit to stay put when it looks like its only half the size it should be. Get what I am sayin? Anyways, if anyone has any insight, I would really apreciate any help/advice you guys could offer me. Thanks a lot!

I just bought the Metra kit for an 05 Frontier. 05 and 06 should be same per Metra kit. Metra kit doesn't look like the Crutchfield kit. You want kit#99-7581. It came with instructions to uninstall factory radio - pop out tray above radio, unscrew and remove dash section surrounding radio, then unscrew and remove radio.

I received and installed the same crutchfield kit. The top tray pops out, I used a plastic spatula in the front right corner. A single screw holds the dash piece in and it comes right out. The radio comes out with 2 screws and the kit, if you follow the directions and use the right pieces, it fits back in very easily. Mine looks like what this person did here -->

You can have the pocket on the top or bottom I think, I did the pocket on top. Tried it the other way, didn't care for it. No issues with the check engine light or air bag light. good luck

You might have read one of mine, mine was the airbag light because the "free installation" happend to be performed by a newbie at best buy. The guy unpluged my airbag wires and it set the light off after the installation.
The other guy, actually had the check engine light. He said it was a MAI code(I think). I gaurantee you that it was just a very rare thing and I seriously doubt you will have a problem if you replace yours. I haven't read of anyone else having problems

All I know is that the dealership plugged up their little computer and read the code and turned the light off. They said it was a result of the wires being unplugged. The guy at best buy said that they unplug the wires all the time and in his brief history there, he was only encountered this problem once before me. Who knows. Maybe I was the one in a million that this happens to.

When I did my first head unit install in my 04 the light came on but only because i wanted to test everthing before reassembling the dash so if the ignition is turned on with the light and switch unplugged it will trigger the light at least in my 04 it did.
When I changed the unit for a second time I made sure to plug it up before testing and the light stayed off.

How does this new headunit play with the OEM speakers, or did you replace them as well? I'm not happy with the volume and feel that it is limited. Opinion?

I purchased the Kenwood MP5028 located here and it is great. The sound is noticeably different, better, on the stock speakers. The lows are there, but the highs are cut short. I may have blown the cheap tweaters, but I need to upgrade the speakers as well.

That is correct, the only way the light with come on is if you turn on the ignition with any airbag or airbag light unplugged. If you are worried, then disconnect the battery or leave your keys out of the ignition... BTW.. After a few beers you will forget this advice, atleast that is what I did the last car I had.
