Thumbs up Extang 'Black Max' Install + Photos! Giddy up!!

The one thing about the 'Black Max' is the fact that it snaps all the way around. The trick to getting the tarp attached is fastening it along the back of the cab first. The instructions indicate snapping the corners first. But; I think that is generic for the others. On the Black Max - snap along the cab, first!

The main thing is alignment of the rails. After that; it's a breeze. The spring bows easily pop in and out, too.

The clamps are very secure, and they have padding, so none of the truck bed is harmed. Note; the Utilitrack system remains completely functional.

Extang, once again, has done their homework, and produced a bed cover (tonneau), that is among the very best in the industry. Not to mention; it just looks sweet!!

One other thing of interest regarding Extang covers; they have snaps that flip over. This allows you to adjust to summer temperatures, or winter temperatures. Slick.

Additional install photos...

Extang Black Max - on board!

Thanks for looking!

Very nice

I've had my extang on for almost a year now and have been very pleased. I've been using "Black Magic" vinyl protectant and I've been happy with it, but I think I'm going to try and find a bottle (probably have to be off the Web) of Tonno Tonic for it and see how that works.

Hi Jerry! Thanks! Your's looks good, as well. Nice color Frontier! I should have ordered a bottle of the Tonno Tonic when I ordered my cover. But; it completely slipped my mind.

I have noticed; I need to lift the back rail slightly when closing the tailgate. It's a real tight fit. I didn't need to do that on my last Extang (Classic), that was on my '98 Frontier. It might close just fine, if I don't lift it, but why take the chance?

Also; in order to get the front snaps (along cab), to snap and unsnap comfortably, I had to move the frame back some. It appears the seal is ok in the front. But; I did need to add that extra seal to get it to meet the bed top.

Looks great. Was wondering where the license plate was until I realized it was in the back window....

I'd be curious to know what you think of the snaps versus a velcro close over time. Also interested in opinions of the tonno tonic vs. other varieties.

I'm pretty much set on getting the Access Rollup. I saw in person and was very impressed with it.

I'll post piks when I get it installed...hopefully one day this week.

Hey that cover looks really good on your truck. You are going to love it. I have the Extang Saber buttonless and don't regret buying a soft top yet.

I posted my opinion on the Tonno Tonic somewhere else, but I forgot that I wanted to mention that I don't have to use near as much, nor use near as often as I did Armor all on my first truck. Plus, when it rains, I think that stuff stays on the cover better than other products. But again, this is just my opinion.

How come there are not many people out there buying the buttonless covers?

I said in my last post that I have the buttonless, but it is the one with the "j45" strip. It works great and has that smooth look. As far as velcro, I just could not trust it for the long run. Years down the road, years before the button or J45 strip wear out, I just don't see the velcro holding up after continued use. (opening and shutting constantly) The thing that scares me about the button tops, (which I don't know because I have never had a chance previously to own one) is the buttons eventually wearing through the material(seperating from the material surrounding it due to tight fits and a constant beating from the wind while driving). But again, I don't know. Other than that, I love the way they look on most trucks.

That dark black looks good on the red. It would look even better if those plastic bed side rail covers where just as dark.

Where did you buy it from?
