Question 2000 frontier knock sensor question

I took my truck in for inspection today and was told there was a problem with the knock sensor. I called the dealership and was told that it would cost over $550.00 to replace. My question is does it have to be replaced or can it be repaired? I feel that because I have inadequate knowledge of mechanical repairs I may be getting taken for a ride on this estimate.

The quote is pretty much correct! I work at a Nissan dealership and the knock sensor is about $160 plus about 4 hours of labor to do. Not an easy job to do...

Exclamation my service engine soon light went off

When I was at the inspection station I got two codes on the emissions test; one was the knock sensor the other was P0455 which is the evaporative emission control system. My husband had failed to inform me (he usually drives the truck) that he had lost the gas cap. I replaced the gas cap and the check engine light went off. Could this possibly mean that I don't have to replace the knock sensor? That it could have possibly been something to do with the other code?

Just so you know, a knock sensor WILL NEVER throw a CEL or a SES light. If there is a problem with the knock sensor only, the light won't illuminate BUT will stay in the ecm. Usually another problem is happening that's also causing the KS to come on also.

just one more qouestion I hope!!!

So if I go back to the inspection station since I replaced the gas cap do you think my truck will pass now? Or will the knock sensor still come up on the emissions test?

2000 Frontier Pining

I have a 2000 Frontier 4 door V6 AT that has pinged almost from day one when running on 87 octane. On cooler days (<60 F) I can run 89 and sometines 87. During warmer months (I live in Houtson so this is ~9-10mos.) I have to run premiuinm 93 octane to keep it from knocking or add a octane booster. I had dealership check it out at ~10K miles but they found no problems. I would like to solve this issue. Please advise.

FYI, if you replace the gas cap, sometimes the light will come on. Just unplug the battery for ~3 mins and plug it back up and it resets the CPU sometimes.
