Yea, just like the rest of us! I've often wondered the same thing. When I had my F-150 it came with the factory soft tonneau cover, I later changed it to a fiberglass hard Tonneau cover. I saw no change in my MPG between the two. If anything I would expect a bit of a drop between the hard cover over the soft due to the added weight. I eventually changed the hard tonneau to a cab height fiberglass shell, heavier still, but supposedly more aerodynamic. Still saw no difference in MPG! Later I replaced the tires, went from the factory 275/60-17's to 265/70-17's, and mpg dropped about 2 MPG! There I was really expecting an increase due to the taller tire giving a higher final drive ratio! So much for logic when it comes to trucks!

I think all this 'MPG increase with a cover' thing only matters if you are doing about 98% highway driving. Just like it says on the Extang box. I bought it for it's looks, and bed protection. But; mention the increased mileage thing to my wife, so she sees even more good sense in it.

Yea, that's it... Advertising hype, whatever it takes to sell these mods to our significant others!

Damn, I thought for sure it would be better with a hard top. You got that right in saying so much for logic
