Question Rev Limiter on an 05??

Does anyone know if the 05s have a rev limiter built in?? If so, what is the cutoff rpm?? I know there's any easy (but expensive) way to find out but thought it better to ask!!

And has anybody run one up to speed to know what the top speed is?? I would expect it to be governed to about 110 or so but haven't tried it yet.

It is easy, but why do you think it is expensive to find the rev limiter?

Not sure. When I dyno'ed we recorded good power all the way up to 6200rpm without any fuel cut off.

The easy, but expensive, way to determine whether or not a vehicle has a rev limiter is to leave it in Neutral and floor the gas. If it grenades, then no limiter!!

That's why I thought it'd be better to ask. Thanks.

just out of curiosuity, do you mean limiting total engine RPM's, or total speed of the vehicle? If it was speed of the vehicle, ild guess that if youre tires are type S rated, that would mean top speed of the frontier is limited to 180kph, or am i wrong?

Every time I have run a dyno pull on my '05 the speed limiter starts cutting the fuel at 107 MPH. You might push it to 110, but that's faster than you need to be going in a 4000 pound brick anyway.

Does it cut fuel or spark? I haven't seen A/F ratio on any of your graphs.

I meant the actual top speed of the vehicle. I expect it has some kind of fuel or ignition cutoff engineered into the ECM that kicks in as the vehicle speed approaches some arbitrary maximum set by the Nissan engineers. On most cars this seems to be about 110 mph or so. I agree with the Rev on this -- this is way faster than anyone needs to be traveling in one of these bricks on public roads. I was just curious if anyone has been brave/foolish enough to try it.

Mathematically if you work it out with the gearing, tire diameter, engine rpms, etc. you get a theoretical top speed for a vehicle. In practice however, aerodynamics and horsepower govern and the actual top speed is usually much less than the calculated value. Coefficient of drag and all that. I have a sports car that, on paper, should be good for 180+ mph but in the real world will only do about 135.

The speed rating of a tire has nothing to do with limiting the top speed of a vehicle. It is only a measure of the max speed that the tire can be subjected to before it *could* fail mechanically and come flying apart.

I have a 03 frontier and it cuts out at 95MPH as for RPM's I don't know and don't wanna try and push it that far.

I can tell you the 05 frontier is governed at 110MPH....Tried it on the way back to tuscon. I was following an 05 Vette......Its a nice limit too. My buddies chevy has this fuel cutoff at his 104MPH limit, you get a sudden RPM loss, a big jolt, nasty noise, it aint pretty. The Fronty just kinda....stopped going faster. Real smooth. The truck had no problem getting there (6th gear, 3200RPM or something)

I have gotten my 05 nismo up to around 115 after that it was still going faster but making a weird noise.

no, it doesnt shut down....It just kinda...stopped accelerating for me. I kinda felt a slight reduction in G forces and it just stayed there. Of course, I was doing 110, and didnt stay there for long, so maybe it would have gone a little farther,.
