Problem with Gas Door

Just got a 2005 Frontier SE about a month ago. Just noticed about a week ago that the "gas door" won't stay firmly shut. Also, while trying to pump the gas it wants to slam shut. Don't know if something is wrong with the springs or if it's a problem I can remedy myself. Anyone else have this problem?

I'd bring it back to the dealership and make it their problem!

I thought it was just my truck.....it has to be the poorest design. My gas door stays shut but, when your trying pump gas the door always wants to shut. I've found that if you hook the gas cap tether on the hook on the inside of the door, it will stay open. All other vehicles I've owned were always spring loaded to stay open

i have heard other people complain about that same issue. think nissan built a bad spring or something, i would definitely take it in. Especially since its a known issue.

not so sure its an issue, i think it is designed to be held open by the caps tether with you put it in the hook. I had the same issue till I found the hook, now no problems.

plus it keeps the cap from banging up your paint

Thumbs down

not sure if the Frontiers and Pathfinders uses the same part for the gas door.
but on the 05 Paths, its a "w" shape spring and holds the door open or shut.
I've only filled up a couple of times and I think like the 4th time, the stupid clip popped out.
I thinks its a bad design.
when I go back to the dealer I will let them know and maybe they can fix it. its okay now, but just not as affective as I would like it to be.

also, the cap holder doesnt work. the gas cap doesnt even fit in that holder and with the cable, it just gets in the way.

just complaining about these small things

I just like the way its works on my 92 Integra. SIMPLE.

I also had the same problem. I just put a magnet in the inside of my door and now no problems.
