Frontier Seat Belt Stitching Rot???

I have a 2000 Frontier and went to belt my 2 year old into his car seat and the seat belt ripped right out of the back of the car. The stitching gave way and seens to have rotted or disintegrated. I checked the other two and lo and behold I could rip all of them right out with no problem. It is not the shoulder belt, It is the three receptors (left right and center). The stitching is rotted where it attaches to the body as well as where it attached to the locking clip(I don't know what you call it).

Is it me or is that just plain scary? After 5 years should this even be a concern? I've never heard of this in my life. After toting around my three kids in the back of this thing, I have to wonder about all the other Nissans out there.

Thanks for any info.

Paul

Unless there is physical damage to the belts, ALL Nissan vehicles' seatbelts are LIFETIME warranty. Go get it replaced ASAP...

Seat belt problem

Thanks for the info...

Seatbelts look perfect. Belts are in great condition. The stiching just disintegrated. I've never seen anything like it.

It scares me I have been driving with kids, Sometimes 3 in it.

About 12 years ago I had a 1984 Jeep cherokee where the lap seatbelt buckle broke which my kid (6 years) broke while buckling up. Dealer was no help, called regional office and complained that this buckle, which is supposed to save my kid's life in a collision, broke in her hand. We agreed that if I would "install" it (one or two bolts), then they would supply replacement belt for free. When I went to dealership to pick it up, noticed that the metal bracket was sewn in backwards. I decided not to take the belt home and pound the bracket the other way (then the liability would've been on me); the second belt received was made correctly. So complain, use the "L" word (liability), and you should get some action. The new thread was probably a cost-savings program. Also notify NHTSB, put in a safety complaint.
