Just bought a 2005 Frontier slightly used. I was under the truck just checking out stuff and I was curious about whether or not it had a tranny cooler since I'm going to be towing.
There is a square (maybe rectangular) box underneath the tranny and it has a metal tube coming out of it.
if you have the tow package, you should have the auxillary trans cooler. look up by the radiator. there will be a smaller radiator looking thing, with 2 lines that go to the transmission. every automatic transmission comes with a transmission cooler. it is built into the radiator. i am guessing you are referring to the auxillary cooler that would be needed for towing.

Looking at the 2005 Brochure, I don't see a towing package as an option. They sell hitches but no tow package on the Frontier.
I see this now. it used to be that a towing package would come with an aux. trans cooler and an oil cooler, but i guess most new trucks come with that stuff standard anymore.
That's all a towing package is... a hitch receiver and the wiring.
Not in all my looking around. 70% of the time it includes wiring for trailer brakes, or a different axle, or an upgraded cooler, or a temp sensor in the transmission. People in this thread were saying that the transmission cooler came with the tow package. Well, there is not tow package (only hitch's) and with or without the hitch you get the same transmission cooling.

I was at the dealer looking for my truck yesterday. They too stated that there is no "package" its it just the actual hitch and wires. The tranny cooler is stock on frontier.
They recommened that i just go buy a trailer hitch as it will cost 1/3 less then the dealer. Does anyone know if it is prewired, or how I can obtain the correct wires? If no one knows ill just ask them today when I am there

www.etrailer.com. They will hook you up. You can always buy the wiring from courtesy nissan or Mossy Nissan if you want a more plug and play. etrailer may have a plug and play for the truck anyway. Call them up.
Edit, I just checked they have a plug and play and several hitch's under 130.
Thanks for the site. Does anyone recommend one hitch over another?
Just be careful when you buy aftermarket hitch wiring for the '05. The OEM Nissan kit has a harness that T's into the wiring in the rear and also includes a couple of relays that you'll need to install in order to have running lights. Here's what I did for a hitch: Hitch Install

They did not stear me wrong with my hitch for the VW Passat. That is a horrible car to wire up. They got me just the right stuff and it work flawless. On the passat you have to run a new power wire to the rear, it's a fused unit. This prevents the lights from being dim. You would think a truck would not need that. I would just ask them. I have bought 2 hitch's from them in the past. Good advice on the whole. Looking at the hitch's they all look about the same. I would try and get one that is sealed on the ends to avoid rust in the tube. Other then that name brands are nice as long as the prices are close. Reese, Hidden Hitch, etc.
