Trailer hitch wiring

2000 Fronty, 2WD...

Going to be pulling a small utility trailer...trying to get the lights hooked up...

On the passenger side of the truck, under the bed close to the rear bumper, you can see the wiring harness going up to the tail lights...

Within that harness there is a flat, 4 wire plug in the harness...I am assuming I can plug in here for the trailer lights???

Is this correct???

And if so, does any know which pins in the plug go to which light???

thanx
Steve

Can't help with the plug you're talking about (I didn't notice that when I was under mine). I used a Hoppy no-cut/no-splice harness (~$35 from auto parts store) and it was great. Just unplug the rear harness, "T" the trailer harness between the two connectors, zip-tie everything out of the way, and you're done. 10 minute job.

If you're gonna try to use that connector or try splicing into the existing harness, I'd suggest getting a ~$2 continuity tester so you can see what wire is getting power.

If the harness is wired correctly, the colored wires are:

Brown - tail lights/stop
Green - right turn
Yellow - left turn
White - ground

As jerryp58 said, now check the plug w/ the continuity tester.

And yes, the no cut/no splice wiring harnesses are sweet. I used one on my previous '02 Frontier.

Thanx to both of you...

I've been looking for some kind of adapter plug to get into the harness with...AutoZone etc...so far not much...

But now I think I have the info I need to get it accomplished...

Thanx again...

Steve
