95' Tempture

95 hardbody XE

Does anyone know the normal operating tempture for the KA24E? As you know, there are no numbers, just H and C, for the tempture guage. Mine usually runs around 3 needle widths from C. Any idea as to what that tempture is? How about when the needle is horizontal?

I drove through 110 degree heat the other day and the needle really got up there near horizontal. I just want to know if I was flirting with disaster.

Thanks guys.

The short answer is NO!!!!! I've owned maybe 5 Datsun/Nissans over the years. Normal temp reading has always been between 1/4 and 1/2 on the gauge. If I remember right, the thermostat is a 180 deg to open all the way, so your flirting with maybe 200 deg out there in AZ same as my '02 Frontier here in Tx. Don't worry about it.

The service manual for my '04 states the thermostat's valve will open (I assume that means it will start to open) at 170* and that it will open to .31" at 194*. So, for mine, the operating temp should be somewhere in that range which is typical for most vehicles. Do you have a thermostat in the vehicle right now? The thermostat should regulate the temperature to that range so, I wouldn't expect too much variation on the needle unless there is a problem with the cooling system and it can't keep the coolant cool even with the thermostat fully opened.
