Tire lockup, ABS controller bad?

1995 Hardbody XE 2WD, 140500K
Alright, to my suprise, both my front wheels locked up the other day while avoiding an accident and scored up my tires bad. New tires, no prob (they were about ready anyway). So what typically goes bad that causes ABS to fail? A connector, a sensor, the unit?

Thanks in advance, Gents.

I don't think you have 4 wheel ABS in that '95. You might have rear wheel ABS, but I'm not sure. I had a '93 King Cab which didn't have ABS at all. You might double check. So now with that in mind, I'm not sure what could have caused your front brakes to lock up. That's very unusual. Disk brakes don't usually do that. The only thing I could figure is that you really stomped on those brakes and made it feel like a lock-up.

Im positive they locked up, because my tires bore the evidence in a spot the size of the footprint. I was not on asphalt. I was on a section of the I-10 that was concrete with the little 3/16 grooves that run parallel to the lane (I presume for water runoff). Im thinking that if I were on flat asphalt then they would have kept rolling.

I was in the far left lane, and the car ahead of me took the shoulder so he wouldnt hit the car in front of him, so I had nowhere to go. Maybe I did mash a little harder than I should have.

I did some more reading and no, I do not have 4 wheel ABS, just rear. One less thing to worry about now.
