nitrous woes

My friend has a 2002 Sentra SE-R. On Friday he had a NX kit installed. As he was leaving the shop he decided to test it out. When he activated the system, he said nothing happened. He pulled over to make sure everything was hooked up and ok. As he slowed, his car died. When he started it back up, he said it was idling very rough and turned off again. Eventually he got it towed home. Saturday he brought it by so I could check it out. I checked his plugs first. There were signs of detonation. Apparently the shop left his stock plugs in and just gapped them a bit smaller. We went a head and changed them. I also did a compression check and all cylinders were at 180 psi. The car is still idling rough and turning off though. His nitrous kit was wired wrong but i fixed that. He does have a CEL. Is there any way I can check the code without using a diagnostic tool. Is there a jumper or something on the ECU? What are good nitrous plugs to use. Will NGK-BKR7E's work? any and all info/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Richard

As a long time NX user I can say that it will not hurt your engine. N20 wont do what his symptoms show. Tell him to get a mechanic that isnt as retarded as the one he has. I installed my most recent NX kit drunk and have never had a problem! Not to be a dick, but its probably his shop that messed up. As for the plugs, stock plugs can handle a 50 shot no prob and NX jets their kits rich so he should have no detonation. Has he advanced the timing?

If your friend wants to play it safe then he'd better get some colder plugs. The NGK's you mentioned is what I currently use and I know of a lot more people that prefer those plugs. And I hope he didn't advance his timing while running the nitrous, you NEVER EVER want to advance your timing if your running nitrous. Retard your timing to play it safe but NEVER advance!!! Using colder plugs and having your timing retarded a few degrees is just pre-cautions for your engine. I've seen too many people put in nitrous kits in their cars and blow their motors cuz they didn't do their homework and tuned it the proper way.
