I've been going through the forums and trying to figure out what this hesitation may be from.

I went to Autozone since the MIL was on and got the P0325 and P0170. I recently changed the spark plugs, wires and removed the upper timing chain guide (which did not eliminate the ticking sound)

I can tell that the car is running lean because of the color the old spark plugs came up.

The car shudders/hesitates between 500rpm and 2500rpm in neutral. It hasn't died yet but I am afraid of it happening.

Could this be cause of the Oxygen Sensor, MAF sensor, some sort of mis-fire or the injector(s) are fouled? How would I check without replacing everything?

Should I look at replacing the cap (the distro itself is not leaking)

Thx

i just bought a 1997 nissan altima for a winter beater. i've fixed a couple problems with it but i can't fix a squeek that is coming from the front left of my car. sometimes does it going straight but always does it going left. its a horrible noise.

I thought maybe its the 205/70R15 tires i have on it but they are completely clear of anything until its completely cut and then they just rub on the metal in the wheel well. this morning when i went out to it i didn't notice the noise for about 2-5km and then it was back. it's starting to really bother me and driving me nuts. any idea's? it sounds like rubber rubbing on shiny plastic like the plastic in the wheel well but i don't think it is, tires should rub left and right if they were too big. also happens while driving only, tried just turning the wheel and that was completely silent.

I picked up a 96 Nissan Altima SE for $2500, 181k miles from a friend of mine but will need some work done on it before it will become a reliable daily driver. I plan on keeping it until 300k.

I did a bunch of research on the uberweb and various forums, took the car to a dealership to get an inspection and needs the following stuff done to it.

Remove T-Chain guide(s?) (forum search on this had different opinions but its very apparent that something needs to be done and soon.
New/Reman halfshafts (old boot is completely gone..not much grease left.)
New rack/pinion boot (old boot is starting to rip)
Shifter bearings and/or rod (it's looser than Madonna)
New front seals
New v/c gasket

Now, I am a complete car n00b but very mechanically inclined and since the dealership quoted me $2700 for all of the work ($1500 in parts, $1200 in labor) so I am planning to do the work myself. I was a bit troubled with this code; P0170 and P0325. I know one is the knock sensor but the P0170 could be the MAF. Is there a way to check if it is the MAF?

Otherwise, the car is in great condition. It was involved in a minor rear ender and there is something funky with the headlights from the prior owner but everything else is gravy.

Your thoughts on the MAF and anything else I should know about would be awesome. I plan on working on the car this weekend then a nice road trip.

Added: I looked under the hood again and noticed there is an intake. Could the filter be plugged enough to toss a code?

Thanks!

I really need help with this. My 96 altima had a leak and decide to replace the valve cover gasket and the distributer gasket. I did all that with no problem, my problem came when i decided to clean the motor at the carwash.

I decided to clean it with motor degreaser and the water pressure gun they got, so i could see if the leaking had stopped.

Now the car has trouble running, it has trouble reaching 20 and after 25 it runs better. The best way to describe how it runs is the same as when you have a whole in you're muffler.
