I went to test only--passed visual--failed High Nox

Applied to CAP--got letter for $500 of repairs

Went to Gold Shield station--left it for 2 days

Failed visual at Gold Shield--the tech wanted to remove all my gauges / reroute all vacuum lines / remove Air Fuel gauge wire from the Oxygen Sensor. It failed Visual at Gold Shield because he said the CARB number on my INJEN intake was invalid. I have the ARB website link with the Executive Order. The EO number is valid. I picked up the Car and the shop kept my CAP letter.

I took the car to my mechanic and replaced 2 leaking injectors, the MAF, spark plug wires, EGR solenoid, and cleaned out the EGR passages inside the manifold. CEL turned off and car ran perfectly.

Note- I had replaced the IACV and the Oxygen sensor and the PCV valve months earlier. CAT is 2 years old.

The original Smog Test Only shop which would do a retest for $11 had been closed for 2 or more weeks--so I went and paid $38 to another Smog Test Only shop.

I passed the visual inspection even though the Gold Shield shop had written that I tampered with 8 things and they said my "Timing" was off because my idle was off. No Timing degree numbers were listed in the Smog paperwork.

DMV refused to give me temporary operating permit [TOP] without the original CAP letter.

Called CAP--they told me to pickup the letter at the shop. CAP put me back into their program because the 3rd smog test had passed my car on visual inspection.

Returned to DMV with CAP letter and got a 60 day TOP [temporary operating permit] DMV wanted $50 for it if not in the CAP program

I called BAR and they sent out an inspector directly to me to photograph my engine. BAR has reviewed the photos and said I should take it to a BAR referee. The inspector said to tell the next Gold Shield shop to call him personally.

I went to a new Gold Shield shop on Nov. 13...it was a friday. The Master smog tech there said I tampered with the Oxygen Sensor and didn't like my silicone vacuum hoses.
He said the CARB number on my INJEN intake was invalid. I have the ARB website link with the Executive Order. The EO number is valid. He asked me for a CARB sticker for the air cleaner on the Injen Intake.
He said that his shop won't work on my car and told me to go to the BAR referee. He refused to call the BAR Inspector. He said he wanted to work fast and not spend the day inspecting my car in order to repair it.

My 3rd failed smog test I had High Nox and the CO was a little high only at 15mph.
The car runs better than new. But the emissions are over the limit.

The Gold Shield shop told me on Friday the 13th, that California now requires an OBD2 Cat on all cars even though I have an OBD1.

The next step is I am seeing a BAR referee for a complimentary visual inspection.

has anyone ever had a problem where their instrument cluster lights do not turn on when you turn on the headlamp switch. wanna know if anyone has ever had this problem. ive checked the wires the dimmer rheostat. and it all shows good. if i jump the power wire to a ground my light work fine. seems like the instrument cluster lights is looking for ground. ive checked the wiring diagram and the only thing i can see that could possibly be the problem is the timer control module thats on the drivers side kick panel below the chime. if anyone has ever had an issure like this let me know

It all started when I had my drivers licence. I built my own dragster, a Cuda -70 with 1136 hp.

It was an awsome adventure to be in control of this extreme machine, knowing I built it myself and have success at the races. Eights on the strip, lovely time it was but rediculously expensive.

Today I´m building an extreme street racer. Handling and brutal power in a nice wraping.
Even if I am building most of it myself, it is costing a lot, but it is worth every single Krona, Euro and Dollar. Luckily there are many good suppliers around the world who produce quality parts at decent prices. I have made many good contacts during the years.

I bought the car in 1998, it was in a very good condition and more important, the engine was flawless and without errors and only a few Miles on it, just to pay.

The first mod I did was 17" rims, lowering springs and adjustable Koni dampers.
After that some styling. Got in contact with Erebuni and together we found a package and named it Shogun. They still use my car on their site.

The engine needed an upgrade. Started with exhaust system, chip tuning, open air filter and increased boost. The result was rather meager, some lousy 200 hp. Nothing to chear about. I got an intercooler, a larger turbo and a manifold. Increased fuel pressure and a modified chip. Together with some other changes, the engine produced some 300 hp... Still not satisfied.

I sold most of it.

After a heavy research I started collecting high performance parts to make it 100%. Forged pistons, forged rods, new aftermarket control unit, injectors, turbo, manifold, large IC, water cooler, clutch, oil cooler, fuelpressure regulator, blow off valve, etc etc... Bosch Motorsports added high ohm 960cc injectors from their development department. It´s nice to have contacts.
Lots of things is needed to assemble a 600hp engine.

How will the gearbox manage all those horses and the hughe torque?

The original tranny dies between 300 and 400hp...

I have to make my own.
Said and done. I bought a Z32 tranny that without swetting manage more than 1000hp.
The bellhousing was cut off and the S13 flange part was TIG welded on. A special made prop shaft and a tranny bracket was made. Thats it! OK...a short shift on top of it.

Potent engine, durable tranny...but...gripp?
How to solve this?

Bought 18" Japaneese light weight drifting rims and really good rubber.
One of the better LSD:s on the market was bought from ATS in Japan and found its place in the rear axle.
Coilovers, adjustable link/rods made of chrome molly, ball joints, swaybars...there is a long list over all modified chassie parts and upgrades.

I mounted the brakes from a Skyline, both front and rear. The brake discs got some work and the wheel hubs was exchanged to 5-bolt version to prevent the wheels from escaping during acceleration.

The interior was modified with Sparco seats, 3" 6-point belts and some more, making it able to handle and keep full control over engina data and the car handling.

It is not an easy thing to create a monster kind of car but with time and effort it is possible, but not for free. For more information, have a look on my site. There are lots of pictures, both on parts and projects.

I look forward, summer to come
`Shogun´
