One of my 89 4x4 Nissan farm trucks has no dash or tail lights. All of the fuses are good. I pulled the switch to clean it and that did not work. I have a feeling that it may be related to a radio I recently installed. The old radio had quit working and I put in a radio out of a Ford Taurus. The radio works great. I read on another thread where someone mentioned they lost dash lights and tail lights when they installed a cd player.

I am not positive the radio has anything to do with it. Could there be a relay somewhere? I have another 89 Nissan truck that had a bad radio also. I also put a Taurus radio in it and the tail lights and dash lights work fine. Not sure where to begin looking. It seemed like there was no power getting to the contact in the switch that runs the tail lights and dash lights. Any help is appreciated.

Seems like I read somewhere here not long ago several people were trying to decide the best way to raise the seat height in their HB's. I thought it was going to be a real biatch because the floor and feet are not horizontal in the front like the rear, so short of fabricating some type of adaptors I wasn't sure how this was going to work at first. Then I proceeded to take a seat out and have a look.

Upon flipping the seat over I discovered the seat tracks do bolt up flat to the seat base. That was wonderful news. I just happened to have four long 8mm bolts and a section of 3/4" plastic electrical conduit laying around ...you know, that grey PVC looking stuff. I cut four squared off lengths of the PVC exactly 1-1/4" because that's how much longer my extra bolts were than the stock bolts holding the seat tracks to the seat. Those are now my new spacers that will raise the seat 1-1/4" off the tracks. Then the tracks will mount exactly as they did before right back in the same position on the floor.

I then took the wire connecting the tracks to each other for the slide adjuster, and a spring off so I could remove the tracks. I took one side at a time and installed the short PVC spacers between the bottom of the seat base and the top of the tracks. I put a little loc-tite and a nice flat washer under the head of each new longer bolt just to make sure the assembly never moves. Reinstalled the spring and slide adjuster wire and bolted the seat back in place.

I couldn't be happier. It gives me much more leg room. I still have plenty between my legs and the steering wheel, and my head and the ceiling, and yet now I sit up in the truck like it should have been from the factory ...unless you are into low riders ...but, even then I could lay the seat back and cruise in comfort. I'm right at 6ft. tall, 205 lbs., and now the D21 fits me perfectly.

This is a VERY simple and extremely sturdy construction, and took me under an hour per seat ...and I was moving very slowly at that. I ended up using 2-1/4" long, 8mm stainless steel grade 8 bolts and washers, and the heavy duty 3/4", PVC electrical conduit, not the stuff you use for water lines. Honestly, the hardest part was measuring and cutting that thick wall plastic conduit evenly. The best part is that you can custom fit this application to any height that fits you. All you have to be sure of is that your bolts are plenty long enough. Too long is no problem as there is lots of room under each seat base to work with.

I'll put up a link to some pics shortly. Like now... My Nissan truck mods pictures by TheRepairMan - Photobucket

Oh, and I forgot ...this mod adds that much more clearance underneath the seat for those things like stereo amplifiers, slap jacks, billy clubs or large caliber revolvers now. It's just GREAT!

G'day!

Hello from sunny New Mexico!

All I can say is this '94 D21 base model has been bulletproof! I doubt a more reliable vehicle exists on the planet. I rebuilt the driveshaft and replaced the clutch at 200,000 miles and they didn't need it. I was astounded the sealed driveshaft u-joints were still very serviceable. The carrier bearing was a little noisy, but so is the new one. The clutch disc did have some wear, but the replacement was preventative. Anyway...

I bought her new and have done meticulously maintanence. Mobil 1 every 4000 miles. A couple years ago she developed a top end tick. I ran Rislone through her now and then and that solved the problem. Now the tick is getting loud and sounds more like a low end knock. I suspect the oil pressure is pretty low because heavier oil helps. The noise lessens after warmup and the noise is worse at idle. I'm wondering if it could be something simple like the oil pump.

I plan on keeping this truck forever. She has been paid off for ten years and I am willing to dump some cash into her. There is no rust due to living in the desert. I saw a longblock on Rockauto for $1900. Nissan wants over $3000. I would like more easy power, but not a requirement. What would you do at this point? Any advice and opinion is very appreciated.

My check engine light recently came on my hardbody, which has 135,000 miles. The truck runs like normal, and the check engine light comes on only when i am at a steady cruise of between 50 to 60 mph for an extended time (about 1700-2000 RPM). If i exceed 60 mph or anything over 2000 RPM, the check engine light goes away, it also goes away below 1700 rpm and also goes away at idle. I checked the error code on the computer and it said that i have error code 32 which is an EGR problem. Any suggestions?

No power after timing chain replacement (another one of these threads)

Ok so i have a 1994 D21 4x4 with a KA24E. The truck has 174k miles on it. Just to be clear, this truck has always had an issue when it comes to power but recently it got worse.

The timing chain was rattling so I just had it replaced. At first, the oil pump was put in a tooth off and the timing could therefore not be set properly. That was corrected and now we set the timing back to 10 deg BTDC like the little sticker under the hood states. At that timing, I have NO power at low RPMs. We had to advance the timing to about 17 degrees BTDC to get the thing to drive normally. Looking at the position on the distributor, it looks like it's pretty close to where it was set when I bought the truck so I guess the last owner had it set way in advance as well. The problem is, I feel like it's still missing a lot of power.

I should also add that the truck runs smoothly and idles just fine. It's just missing power.

What controls the advance on these distributors?

I've put in a new fuel filter, cleaned the MAF, there are no codes.

What do you think it could be?

I love the truck but, as I mentioned in some previous threads, the frame it riddled with rust. The guy took advantage of my vehicular ignorance and screwed me. But it's alright. I'm just thrilled to have something that gets me from point A to point B. Granted, since it's so rusted and the frame is shot, I can't get over 45MPH, much to the dismay of driver's stuck behind me, lol. The tire wobbles something fierce when I drive faster than that. Oh well. I love my clunker. :)

Ok i have a 1992 Nissan pickup that i was having transmission problems with! it is a 4cyl manual! the last owner put in a new clutch but said it wouldnt shift right! i bought the truck and did a new slave cylinder, master cylinder and the truck was still hard to get it in! later down the road it started popping out of 5th then 1st! so this past weekend i purchase a rebuilt 1994 nissan pickup transmission and put it in my 1992. i used the 92 clutch fork and throwout beaing because the 1994 didnt come with one! when i bolted it to the engine i noticed that the driveshaft had a space in it right where the rear tail meets up with the splines. On my 1992 it has a gold cup looking adapter to fill that spot and the 1994 didnt! everything else looked the same though! i go to start it up and push the clutch in and immediately the clutch felt weird/hard to push in. i got under the truck and it looks like the slave cylinder is doing its job. But when i select the gears and let the clutch out nothing happens! its like the clutch wont disengage at all! has this happened to anyone else? could it be the wrong clutch fork or throwout bearing? or did the fork just come off of the pivot ball? also its not the drive shaft because i can turn it manually and it turns the transmission. could anyone tell me if the 1994 driveshaft is alittle longer than the 92 so i can replace that small gap as well??? thanks for your help!
