In a country where exotic cars are (seemingly) as common as Camrys, the police are most certainly in need of a vehicle that can keep up. So the Abu Dhabi police service in the United Arab Emirates has just unveiled its secret weapon, a 485-hp Nissan GT-R.

Not much else is known about the car, but if you look around back you're sure to notice the clever phrase, "We ensure you safety… in the fastest way."

So it looks like we might be seeing a lot more Porsche GT2s pulled over on the side of the highway in Abu Dhabi.
Modified Nissan GT-Rs are surprisingly few at the 2009 SEMA Show, but the ones that are in attendance are impressive machines. With the GT-R's impressive Nürburgring lap time it was only time before tuners and race shops got started on tuning the GT-R to fulfill its motorsports calling.

The car features modifications including shocks by JRZ, aerodynamics by GT:R Fabrication and engine tuning by AMS and Cobb tuning. Power is a reasonable 550-hp, although the GOTO Racing team is reportedly working on upping the output to closer to the 650-hp mark.

Driver Brian Lock pilots the GT-R in both the Super Lap Battle and Redline Time Attack.
To our surprise, the number of Nissan GT-Rs at this year's SEMA Show is much lower than expected, with the Camaro being the obviously dominant vehicle. One of the nicest GT-Rs on display is the Black Bison model from Japanese tuner WALD.

We found the car over at the Jonari booth, the company that distributes WALD (along with other brands like Rinspeed and even Mansory) in North America. The pristine white GT-R features the full WALD aero kit including side skirts, rear fender arches, a new front bumper with carbon fiber accents, a carbon rear wing and a carbon diffuser. Also included in the build are a set of 22-inch WALD P13F wheels with Yokohama Advan tires, WALD lowering springs and a full titanium exhaust from Arqray Japan.
One of the most surprising vehicles a this year's SEMA show (and a refreshing change from the excessive number of Camaros) was the dry carbon widebody Nissan GT-R. Hidden away on the back side of the 3T Motorsport booth, the car was built by AIT Racing, which specializes in aerodynamics for a long list of vehicles.

On display, the AIT car sorted a set of HRE wheels with racing slicks, but the car's street tires measure 335 in the rear!

In speaking with a 3T rep, he told us that the car is mostly stock under the hood. There is, however, a KW suspension setup, and those HRE wheels.

We look forward to hearing more about this car in the future.
Held each year in Las Vegas, Nevada, the SEMA Show is an industry event for the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association.

Tuners and parts suppliers from across the industry and even from the realm of motorsports come to show off their wares, usually displayed on some sort of eye-catching highly-modified vehicle - be it a muscle car, hot rod or sport compact car.

And let's not forget the increasing presence of mainstream manufacturers like Hyundai, Scion, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Chrysler and Dodge. Major areas of interest at SEMA include Racing and Performance, Wheels and Tires, as well as Trucks, SUVs and Off-Road vehicles.

Report: Nissan Rogue Gets Special Krom Edition for 2010

After launching the Krom edition of the Cube, Nissan has announced the Rogue crossover will get one too. Looking somewhat odd, with a tiny little grille and a great big GT-R-sized air dam, we can at least say that the Krom Edition adds a little flavor to the otherwise mild Rogue.

The Krom Edition is based on the Rogue S and gets 17-inch wheels with 225/60/17 Continental Conti 4×4 tires, the unique front end with integrated fog lights, a new rear bumper with integrated center-exit exhaust, a rear spoiler and paint-matched mirrors. Inside there's a Krom emblem on the steering wheel, which also includes audio controls. The Krom Edition Rogue will be available in three colors: Venom Red, Wicked Black and Gotham Gray, starting in December.

"The new Krom edition expands Rogue's already strong appeal, bringing its unmistakable sporty and active design to buyers seeking to stand out from the crowd of ordinary compact SUVs," said Pat Steiner, director, Specialty Vehicles Group, NNA. "Just as our NISMO models add enhanced performance straight from the factory, the Krom lineup offers intriguing, customized design right off the showroom floor."

That being said, we should probably expect more Krom Edition vehicles from Nissan in the future.

Report: Nissan Leaf Electric Car Kicks-Off Zero Emission Tour November 13th in LA

Having just officially launched its Leaf electric car at the Tokyo Auto Show in Japan, Nissan has announced the potentially revolutionary new vehicle will start a U.S. tour. Set to begin on November 13th in Los Angeles, the Leaf will then travel to Northern California before crisscrossing the country. The Leaf will stop in 22 cities in 11 states, as well as the District of Columbia and one stop in Vancouver, Canada.

Nissan is hoping to use the tour to educate people on the Leaf and the benefits of zero-emissions driving.

The Leaf is powered by lithium-ion battery packs and is rated at 80kW/280Nm, (107-hp and 207 ft-lbs of torque), which should make this sub-compact a sporty little car.

Nissan says it will be able to drive 100 miles on a single charge. The batteries will be able to be charged up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes with a special quick charger, or in roughly eight hours through a standard 200V outlet. Nissan says that through extensive research the 100 mile range will be suitable for 70 percent of car buyers.

Next year 5,000 vehicles will be available in five U.S. markets: the Phoenix-Tucson region of Arizona, Oregon, San Diego, Seattle and Tennessee. Fleet sales will also be offered in 2010, while full retails sales are planned for 2012.
First impressions are important and the new 370Z Roadster, unlike its predecessor, makes a great one.

During the vehicle launch presentation, one of the product planning folks highlighted how the new Z was designed to be a convertible right from the start – a hint, perhaps, that the roadster version of the pervious model was an afterthought. It certainly looked like one.

Rather than just cutting the top off, Nissan spent time, energy and resources designing the Roadster to give it its own unique personality. If you look carefully at the car's profile, you'll see that there's a flat surface at the top of the windshield, which lets you know as you look upwards that this is where the car ends. Another design cue is the rear tonneau cover with its two bulges, giving a distinct two-seater look to the car, while the center dip between the two humps pours down into the cabin – bringing just a little of the car's exterior paint color into the cockpit.

Another sign that the roadster's design was thoroughly thought out is that the car's drag coefficient is actually lower (i.e. more aerodynamic) than the coupe, which is the opposite of what usually happens when you chop the sleek and solid metal roof off and replace it with a piece of material.
