The previous owner had injectors done a couple of years ago Since I've had the car, the smell of gas has been strong. The injector hoses were leaking so I replaced them. Interesting though, I cut the hoses exactly the same and attempted to put collector on and through various processes found that one injector was hitting the collector. I took the injector rail with injectors off and shortened all the hoses. and the collector went on just fine. I did put on new injector connectors (with soldier) and repaired a few wires. When I attempt to start the car, it stumbles as I give it the gas and then revs fine. When I take my foot off the pedal the engines stumbles again and dies. I've checked volume of gas, and it's good. Checked and re-checked all electrical and vaccum hose connections, there good? What am I not doing? I've searched for about and hour on this forum as well as others, and can't seem to find an answer. I NEED HELP, PLEASE....

when i first got my 85 n/a, i remember that the windows would automatically slide down when you pulled the door handle so that it didnt snag in the t-top, and the auto up when the door had latched. i seized the motor a couple years ago and the car sat till just a couple months ago when i swapped in another motor. but now the windows dont do their trick... is it a fuse? wiring? i had pulled the door panel off the pass. door to take a look inside when the car wasnt running. could i have unplugged something? cuz it doesnt work on either door now, when it use to work on both. and im tired of my windows snaggin but i want to know if anyone knows whats up before i start tearing into things...... and im going to be putting in a new top end soon. this motor has crap for compression. whats my best options for building a strong top end so i can start hoppin up this motor. price no issue. looking for all ideas.
thanks for your time....

What do think?

I've been going over my '86 300ZX with a fine-tooth comb, and I have two questions:

1. There is a cooling fan (or something) under the hood that comes on when I shut the engine off. Obviously, it's supposed to turn itself off after a while, but about 2/3 of the time it doesn't, and I have to lift the hood and disconnect the battery to shut it off. When I reconnect the battery it doesn't start back up. My mechanic can't even find the device (fan?)...it seems to be forward and below the battery. He suggested installing a manual on/off switch inside the car. Is that a good solution? Is there an easier or better way to fix this? What the heck is it anyway?

2. I got the car with some nice-looking aftermarket rims. This afternoon I dropped by Discount Tire to have a slow leak fixed. They pointed out to me that whoever put those rims on had used spacers between the wheel and rim in order to correct the offset. They are about 3/32" thick. I've never seen spacers used before, and it doesn't strike me as a good idea. The guy presented this to me as a real safety issue, and suggested I replace the rims ASAP. What say you?

My name is Dave and I'm new here. I love old cars, which is a good thing because I can't afford a new one! I just picked up a 1986 300ZX NA two-seater. Best thing is, I only paid $1000 for it. It has 171,000 miles, and doesn't seem to have any major issues. The AC doesn't work, but I'll worry about that next spring. It does have an automatic instead of a clutch, but since I have a little arthritis in my knee that's alright I guess. It has new rims and tires, new paint (black), new timing belt, and a new battery. It has a new AC compressor too which seems to be working, so I'm guessing a vacuum problem. The guy I bought it from also put a new muffler on it which I'm thinking of changing out. It's a Flowmaster, and to me it just doesn't sound right with the automatic tranny.

I had to get a little work done. I replaced both headlights and then discovered I had to replace the switch on the column. Just got that done today, along with a thorough tune-up. It's the bomb, just runs like crazy. I'm gonna love this car!

I've spent a couple mornings just reading the posts, and I've learned a lot. The cable release on the rear hatch/gas tank doesn't work at all, and thanks to you guys I know how to approach that small repair. I just press on the corners of the gas lid with my thumbs and it comes open easily. I don't have a big questions at this time, but I know I will, and it's good to know where to go for answers.

I work as a property inspector, and I drive about 20,000 miles a year. My other car is a 1991 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight with all the bells and whistles, and all the headaches that go with those old electronics. It's a great rolling office, but I'm gonna be a lot happier in the Nissan. Thanks for letting me join.

Hello all. New to the forum. Have read it for years and have been able to find everything I have needed. So thanks to all who have answered here.

So my questions has to do with he digital ac controller on my 1987 GLL NA. I have replaced all vacuum lines under hood and interior. About 2 months ago my digital ac controller would freeze, (by freeze i mean the temp and ambient temp would both show -188 and none of the buttons will work except manual def.). I ran the self test per the fsm. And all sensors tested ok. I have checked all 3 sensor locations to make sure no wires are loose or shorting out. When it does freeze it goes into default mode (hot blowing top and floor vents). It only seems to do this on start up (it has never done it while driving). It can be hot or cold outside. I pull the fuse and sometimes it will reset right away, sometimes it will not reset for a few days. I have yet to pull the unit and check for loose solder joints.

Just seeing if anyone else has had this problem, and if they have found a solution before I buy an ac digital controller unit on-line. Any help and answers are appreciated and thanks in advance.
