Hello,

I have a 2000 Sentra, 1.6L, 145K miles.

Car runs fine, great even. Except it has this problem where it will sit and idle fine then just die. Its like it struggles for fuel. If I catch it I can give it a little gas and it is fine and goes back to idling fine. It does it in park, drive, and reverse.

It also occasionally bucks fairly violently at low rpm speeds (like around 35 or 40). It does it for maybe 2 seconds, then is fine.

It has been doing it for over a year. I typically just drive it with two feet so I can give it a little gas.

I just changed the plugs, the PVC valve, the air filter, and the oil.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sammer

Okay, so, my Nissan is leaking A LOT of oil. I replaced the front main seal as this was the place I initially thought the leak was coming from. After putting it back together and filling with oil and taking for a spin, i noticed it still losing a lot of oil. After searching the whole engine, I found that it is leaking from what was a liquid seal on the front of the engine. (where you would have to remove to get to the timing belt.)

A buddy and I did the work on the front main seal, it took us an hour and a half. Would it take much longer to remove the front engine cover and reseal that? I have read the stickied post about the timing above, but all of the pictures seem out of date. So as looking in the service manual, it shows a ton of work to get to the timing belt. I am not trying to put too much more money into this car, but i am willing to sacrifice some time. the car has 178k miles on it.

Hi Guys, I need some guidance here....
This morning im leaving the house as soon as get into 1st gear, I hear a sound coming from the driveline, like if there where egg shells inside the gearbox. It also happens in 2nd gear, noticeable mostly at low speeds. AS a precaution, I went to have the gear box oil chaned, this helped with the noise BUT, now the clutch pedal is is overly soft and makes the gears hard to engage. Im thinking that my clutch is going out....what do you think?

I'm new to nissans, and this forum, so HELLO EVERYONE! :)

This is my wife's car.....

Mkay, Car's sat for almost a year. Finally got a junker engine in and after many heavy sighs and lots of cursing. Got it to start up and it ran. ... on 3 cylinders, i think, but it ran. Came back the next day to finish her up and i haven't been able to get it to start since. I've checked the firing order 20 times, It's got proper fuel pressure, spark to all 4 cylinders, and i've added fresh fuel. I can't figure out why it ran, and now won't? Up until i killed the battery trying to diagnose, it was cranking fine, had spark, and fuel. I pulled the fuel rail and all injectors seemed to have a healthy spray pattern.

Any ideas? something i might be missing?

Thanks guys!

I replaced the MAF and it helped but im still getting the same codes. if anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing all of this Im all ears for suggestions lol. I almost wondering if it couldnt be the PCM failing.

Hey guys,

Been trying to diagnose the trouble with my new (to me) 92 Sentra XE. 5spd, GA16, 2 door, 170k body/60k engine, nothing special. I've got new:

Plugs (NGK Copper)
Wires (Autozone)
Cap/Rotor (Autozone)
Distributor (Reman Beck/Arnley)
Coolant Temp Sensor (Autozone)

I just got it running after a crank/no start issue that lasted well over a week, turned out to be -something- in the ignition, but now anything from full retard to full advance will let the engine run but it runs horrible. I've gotten it to a happy medium, with no load it revs OK but doesn't like to be let down to idle too quickly without dying. With a load on it, I've got to slowly, and I mean very delicately, release the clutch and get it up to speed. I can shift through all gears but I run out of speed around 55 and that's in 3rd gear, if I shift to 4th it can't keep up.

My best thoughts are the timing is off since I can't time it within the means of the distributor, but I don't know if this chain can jump or somehow get itself off timing. Almost sounds like I've got a valve making some noise at low speed until I rev it up, but I'm not sure. The engine runs too rough to really notice what's what beyond it running off-beat.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I have a weird issue with my 99 Sentra:

After highway driving on cold/cool nights, when I get off the freeway, I notice my engine is idling VERY high. In drive, the idle at full stop is 1200-1300rpms and in Neutral, it's 2000 or 2500 rpm's. I've cleaned the throttle body, EGR valve (because it set an error code), replaced fuel filter, and PCV valve. Recently, I replaced the thermostat, which helped since the car was taking forever to heat up and would get very cold on the highway. The temperature is now stable but the car still goes into high idle mode intermittently. Otherwise, it idles beautifully.

Any thoughts?

Hey guys how you doing. So lately i've been driving on the freeway for about 30mins and i'll try to use my brakes but the pedal feels like it has lost all pressure. so it slowly goes almost all the way down before i feel my brakes actually working. its pretty scary because when i really need to stop my brakes are going to be delayed. Now this only happens when im either on the freeway for about 20mins in 5th gear or im driving without using my brakes for an extended amount of time. Once i try to use my brakes and i feel they have no pressure all i have to do is pump my pedal and pressure comes back like normal. Im just wondering what could be causing this.

Hey - need to know if I can adjust the ignition timing and idle speed on my 99 Sentra. I have a Haynes manual that says not to do this on models 99 and later, since they're computer controlled. But of course, the distributor still has the adjustment nut and there's still an idle control screw. Also, I recently bought mine used and it can use a tune up.

Additionally, can someone let me know what other areas of the car might need tuning/cleaning besides ignition/idle/plugs? I've already cleaned out the throttle body and EGR valve with throttle body cleaner (the EGR was malfunctioning and setting a code). The engine was having some real inconsistent idle issues. It would idle high (2000 RPM in neutral) after getting off of the freeway. Cleaning the TB and EGR valve helped a lot, but it could still use some tweaking. Occasionally, the the transmission will shift hard b/c of a occasional high idle - though the idle seems to adjust towards 800 rpm in drive much more consistently now (~900 in neutral).

Thanks for your help!
