Hi all,

I'm new to the sight not by choice but by neccessity. I am in a conundrum and could do with your help/advice. Here's the conundrum:

The Car: I have had a 2003 X-Trail 2000cc petrol for approx 18 months. It has 50,000 miles on it and has been serviced at 18,000 and 36,000 miles. When I bought it, I was told by the dealer that it had a 18,000 mile service schedule.

The problem: 3 days ago the Engine Warning Light came on so I booked it in with my local Nissan dealer to get it checked out and I also asked for a full level 3 service as they informed me that the service schedule was wrong and that it should have been serviced at 45,000 miles (9,000 service schedule). They quoted me £45 for diagnostic and £234 for the service if all OK. Anyway, on the morning of the service, I had to detour due to work and had to book it in at a different location but same Dealership. When I asked the prices, they quoted me £61 for diagnostic, £369 for service and a recommended Break Fluid change for £54 . When I questioned their prices they then reverted to the same prices as first quoted and gave me some babble about older cars (not impressed).

I left the car with them at approx 1030 hrs and proceeded to work with a proviso for them not to do the service if there was a major fault found and them to contact me by nolater than 1630 hrs. After not receiving any call from them by 1500 hrs, I decided to detour my journey that I was on and drive past the garage. Low and behold, the X-Trail was still in the same position I had left it (I know this because I had left the rear wipe central when I switched the engine off).

At 1645 hrs, later than the time stated, the lady at the garage contacted me and said she was sorry she was late contacting me but my car had been in the workshop since I had left and that they had found a major fault which was hard to diagnose. She then proceeded to let me know that it was a timing chain/belt problem that was going to cost me the best part of £1,100 and wanted to know if I wouldlike the work doing tomorrow.

So the conundrum: After reading many forums and 20 pages of this one, I cannot see any thread relating to this problem, which makes me think that it is a rues by the garage to get money out of me for work that doesn't actually need doing. Combined with the way they have treated me on the phone with their deception and lies, I am wondering if I should go anywhere near them.

2 Questions for my peace of mind:

Q1. Do you think these people are reputable and could I trust them?

Q2. Is the fault that they have diagnosed a common or very rare occurrence?

Thanks in advance.

Wayne.

Ok, so my 2004 X-Trail went in for service at the dealers and they checked the brakes as usual - the pads were close to going and the discs were worn too - no surprise there, and no surprise that they wanted me to pay a small fortune for the privilege of them ripping me off...

Anyhow, decided to replace pads/discs myself with the help of a mechanic friend. Have searched this and other forums with no luck yet, but looking for a guide on how to remove/replace the discs (rotors) - found the excellent guide on the Australian forum onhow to replace the pads but need info on the discs...

If anyone can help with a guide/pictures/torque settings for any bolts etc I'd be grateful...

Hi all,

My x-trail is due for its 40k tranny fluid change but going through the manual it only mentioned the type of fluid I should use but do not show where to drain the fluid nor the amount of fluid to replace it.
My questions to you guys are:
1. Are there any websites that show instruction? I figured it would probably easy to find the drain nut but I want to be sure.
2. What is the capacity? I dunno how many liters to buy.

It is an 2005 X-trail SE 2.5L engine automatic transmission.

Thanks all

From standing position it got up to 130kpm and the rpm at 6500rpm in about 11sec (questimate). Continuing to stay at that speed the rpm dropped to about 3000 rpm.

At 90kpm running at 2300rpm

Idle at 900rpm

Does this sound about right?

We have a 2005 X, bought new, and serviced regularly by our local Nissan dealer. Lately we have been hearing this sound from the right rear wheel. It sounds like something was stuck to the tire as it is not a constant sound. When I depressed the brake slightly the sound disappeared. It does not make the sound all the time but appears randomly. I had the car to the dealer and went for a drive with the technician - of course there was no noise. The noise continues; I have the vehicle in for a check this Saturday. Anyone with any ideas?

Okay I feel like offering a reward for anyone who can fox this problem...

My 05 xtrail has a shake in the steering wheel... my "All season" tires started to shake...got them balanced and an alignment done...still shook. Took car to Nissan and they rebalanced the tired...replaced a wheel bearing and aligned it again...and told me I had a broken belt in a tire. So I put my winter tires on and the shake is better, but still there. It seems to come and go a bit too... IM GOING CRAZY! What can it be? Everything is tight. Its only in the steering wheel...rims are factory and in perfect shape.

Thanks...

My rear tires are wearing out a lot faster than the fronts, and they're wearing down on the outside a lot more than the inside.

I had work done on the rear brakes (parking brake parts all rusted and seized, rear wheel bearings shot) done a few thousand km ago, and until that point, I'm pretty sure that the front and rear tires looked about the same.

Why I mention that servicing is that they put the parking brake cable under the control arms, so I had to take it back, and they said they'd fired that technician. Now I'm wondering if there's anything in the rear suspension that could have been put back together incorrectly by that technician to affect the alignment and cause the rear tire wear.

Or do I just have worn out rear shocks? Seems kind of bouncy back there sometimes. Currently has 142K on it and not sure if they've been changed. I bought it coming off a lease last year.

thanks,

Hi all, this is my first post on this forum. I have a 2005 X trail 2.2 Dci that has developed a problem recently. The main symptom is general rough running. Also, there is an occasional loss in power when cruising at around 75mph. This loss of power normally corrects itself when I depress the clutch momentarily followed by pressing the gas pedal. The car has been in to the local dealer where it was diagnosed as having a faulty suction control valve. Following the replacement of the valve, there was absolutely no difference. I am now reluctant to let them have another go as I cannot afford to pay them more money unless I am confident that what ever action they take will solve the problem.
After searching the web for an answer, I have noted that the idle speed is steady, not erratic. There is no problem starting the car, it does not stall after idling. I mention these as they are all symptoms that have been reported along with rough running.
I have considered the EGR valve as a possible source of the problem. Does anybody have any further clues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:newbie::newbie:
