Question ca18de piston to valve clearances

I recently purchased a 1988 Pulsar SE with a blown head gasket. After teardown (what a pita) took head to machine shop as it was warped all to h-e-double hockey sticks and it took almost .040 to straighten it back up! Does anyone make a head saver shim as none is available from my local parts guys. Will the valves hit the pistons without one? Thanks for your help
