I have the E16s with the three speed automatic. The transmission slips everytime it changes gears so I plan to swap another transmission into the car. Recently on the highway one night I began to hear a new noise. It's hard to describe but it's like the regular noise an automatic transmission makes when the car is moving except at higher speeds you can hear a higher pitched almost siren sounding noise along with it that is usually constant but sometimes cuts in and out, especially when I start slowing down.
I don't know if it's transmission related or not though. I tested the driver side wheel, since as far as I can tell the noise seems to be coming from that direction, by seeing if it had any play side to side and up and down and it was fine. The brake pads look like they're getting low so maybe that's the noise but I think I would hear it all the time and not just at higher speeds. Besides it's not a screeching noise like brake pads make. Anyway I noticed that the wheel had some play when you try to spin it. It has a bit of play and then makes a clicking noise before it can't be moved further. Is that normal? And last but not least, I've never seen an E16s automatic transmission up close so I don't know if this is what it's supposed to look like but is this the way they look? It seems to me that there should be some kind of boot or something covering up where the axle goes into the transmission. Does this look right?
id say u have a fairly bad leak going on and your low on fluid orrrr i cant tell if thats the inner boot ripped that shot grease everywhere, either way check your fluid lefel and if thats not it check out those wheel bearings, im betting your not very mechanically inclined so one sure fire way to see if they are still good shut your radio off and jun and stick your head out the window and take a sharp turno to put a lil more wieght on the wheel your testing .
take a sharp left to listen to the right wheel an and sharp right to listen to the left, while testing see if u hear any kinda grinding/almost vacuum/ rubbing noise getting louder as u turn
my bearings are kinda beat and i should change them and at high speeds they kinda make a oise, tha is why i suggest u check it out, it can be pretty dangerous to drive like this, but im just a idiot, though i should really stop and change mine as im havin a kid soon annnnnnd dieing would be kinda bad. wheels lock up at 80 spin out get hit by 5 yuppies in SUV's mmmm no thanks
