On Thursday, I had the oil changed. On Friday it ran ok in the morning.
In the evening when I tried to start it kind of started and stopped. I thought it was the belts.
But now when I try to start, the starter cranks and the engine almost seems to want to start. Then nothing happens.
I took to STS and two different people had two different opinions.
On Saturday they said there was an electric short and asked me to take it to a dealer or someone who deals with the electrical issue.
yesterday a different person said it was an internal engine problem. Everything outside the engine checked fine.
Do you think PEP boys may be able to diagnose the problem. Do people have any recommendation about what I can do or recommend a garage?
I live in Edison, NJ.
I would think if something internal to the engine failed, you would hear some sort of noise when you turned the motor over (like a broken timing chain) definately wouldn't sound like it was trying to start.
quick test for you, turn you key to the ON position, but do not start the car. You should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds and then quit. If you do not, you have something amiss back there, like a bad pump. Almost sounds like what happened when mine went.
There is a fuse for the pump in the fuse box, check that to make sure it didn't blow. If it did, replace it and try to start her again. if the pump is bad, it will most likely start , and then blow again. Just a thought.
The fuel pump could be the reason because thats why my 88 Sentra wont fire up unless you shoot some startin fluid in it. Why dont you try shooting some startin juice in there and if you get a sputter and it barely runs, then you either have a clogged line or shot fuel pump. I am waiting on mine to go out on my 89 since it has 258k on it.
I took the car to another garage. The technician there tells me that there is fuel, spark, the timing checks okay and there is compression, but the car doesn't start.
I had the engine oil changed two days before the problem started. Could the engine be flooded? Does the timing chain have to be replaced?
Thats just asinine. I mean...if it has spark, fuel, correct timing, and compression...then why the hell wont it start. I would check into the fuel pump. The one on my 88 runs....but that dont mean its pumpin fuel.
fuel+air+spark+compression = vroom someones wrong and what u have to do is do it right buy doin it yourself
to check if its fuel issue do whats previously stated about spraying some starting fluid in the intake to see if she sputters
to check for spark ummmm pull a plug wire off and put it near some metal and have someone turn the key to check if a psark is arcing
ya know its getting air
and for internal engine stuff if it skipped a link it would either run like crap or turn over forever and sound like someone is playing tiny symbles under your hood because your valves would be hittin your piston or chain would be flopping around
I say you check the spark and fuel yourself. If your timing is off, then it would kinda make like it wouldnt have any compression. Just a weeeeehhh instead of a weh weh weh weh weh if you can understand that.
lastnite i was messn with my eng
and it would not START
not even a starter sound
well i fliped out
but in the daylight i notice that the REDCOLORED wire was disconnected from my starter
You said you took it to 2 mechanics...I would say take it to the dealer, but it doesnt run. What you should do...if you have satellite or cable, you should watch all those DIY car shows. Thats virtually how I really learned how to work on cars.
yea shows help butt when u know u blew the timing on your engine, ya cant hurt anything by takin it apart and im the kinda guy who if i take it apart then i can put it back together noooo problem
