Megasquirt sounds sorta pornographic, but if it works...

Talking It's alive..... ALIVE!

It runs oh sweet sweet victory it runs!
Great start to a new year

Alrighty... since it has been too cold to work on (~30 deg) till today (52! hoo-rah) I finally was able to.
I switched the injector from the one in the GA16 to the one from my E16. She fired up on third crank!

Either the injector was stuck (the brass-looking pin on top looked to be raised higher than the other two injectors from E16's) or the injector is actually different. The numbers off the E16's are (0B03, A46-00) and (0B02, A46-00) The ones on the GA16 are (0B31, A46-000).
I'm not sure if that's significant, but yes. IT RUNS! (I rejoiced at the top of my lungs..)

Now.. for the down-side; tweaking.
It idles at roughly 1500.. it's running rich, for sure. It's probably the fuel pressure (the pump sounds a bit odd because of the higher regulator), but I'm taking no chances letting it idle for any extended period of time before I make a few more adjustments to other things.

Happy new year, everyone. Now, let's stop choking our E16's and give them the airflow they deserve!

Great news Whitefox! Like I said, the GA16i uses a dropping resistor before the injector. The E16i doesn't. Yes, I'd say the injectors are different alright. I'm glad you stuck with it, because there's a new forum member, who needs this trick for his "stock" dirt stock car.

So the big question is: Does it make more power????

I'm going to have to get it running right before I can try to see the differenct it makes. The TPS I suspect needs adjusting also.. Anyone think the computer could cope with the higher fuel pressure (14 vs 34)* by leaning out? Or would it be too big of a stretch.. I can't take a road test till I know for sure that it won't fry or flood itself.

* [According to Haynes, that's the idle fuel pressure in psi.]

Interestingly enough, I looked in the Nissan manual, and the regulated fuel pressure for the '88 2WD E16i is in fact 14 psi. But the '88 4WD E16i is 36.3 psi. Go figure. OK, let's see, you have a low pressure injector, running with high pressure. Well then it makes sense, that it runs way too rich. Two things you can do: a) swap on the original E16i low pressure fuel regulator on your
GA16i tbi, or b) do what I suggested earlier in this thread, and add the GA16i's dropping resistor in the circuit [and put the original GA16i injector back in the tbi. I know the original injector is good, because it ran fine on my car]. Good luck my man!

Slight problem: The E16 regulator and the GA16 are completely different..
I'm still without any junkyards that I can find a dropping resistor at.. On that topic, how exactly would the E16 run right even with it? I mean, I might be wrong here, but wouldn't the injector at least work without it? (The injector is like a solinoid, correct?) A resistor cuts back on the current, so wouldn't it stay open or open too far without it? If it's not even spraying with the unaltered current, how would a resistor make everything work properly? I'm just curious...

Whitefox, I am out of Aces on this one. No one has ever done it, and I really can't sort it out from my computer. Those were my best avenues to try. That's the direction I'd be going in. Perhaps someone else here can jump in and show us all the way
