Check the new ride!

Just got myself an '86 200SX with a CA20E (automatic) with 117000 miles, it's got some front end damage but it's not too bad and shouldn't be very difficult to fix. The CA hasa blown head gasket so I plan on ditching all the single cam crap and bolting on a DE head( CA16 or CA18, doesn't matter), so if anyone has a spare laying around hit me up. I'll try to keep updated with the progress but for now enjoy some pics-

so a ca20e head can have a ca16de or ca18de head put on it, what are the advantages to that? does it raise compression, rev higher, etc

Now we know why he calls himself Slacky Just messing with you it alows you to individually mess with the cams for timming adjustment
and now for the facts
Year Engine Hp/Torque BorexStroke
1987 CA16DE 113/98 3.07x3.29
1988/89 CA18DE 125/115 3.27x3.29
1991 SR20DE 140/132 3.39x3.39
1986 CA20E 102/116 3.33x3.46
1986 CA18ET 120/134 3.27x3.29

So one could think a CA20DE would range around 140hp with say 130+torque
but any way nice ride you should be able to fix that damage fairly cheap also its a fun cheap RWD play toy

if he got his hands on a CA18DET head that would be cool or just made a turbo kit for a 18DE head.

Talking

I'm thinking about trying to talk my dad out of one of those 3 ground-power unit turbine engines to stick in a second Pulsar...Basically, making it like an M1A2 Abrams tank, also turbine powered. If you ever hear/read of a guy who impaled himself and his Pulsar into the back of a semi truck at 300 mph on the flats south of Mount Vernon, WA, you'll know it was me. There won't be anything left...including DNA.

I was just going to some minor mods besides the head swap( the ECU and harness will have to be changed as well) like less restrictive intake and exhaust. Turbo is not in mind for this engine as it has 177000 miles on it and a blown headgasket, you should have seen the nasty shit in the radiator caused by the head gasket. I was just gonna strip the block of any remnance of single cam items( mostly just from the head up basicly) and try to find me a CA16DE(preffered) or a CA18DE head to slap on there and have cheap HP cuz the 97hp or that this CA puts out isn't gonna be enough for my likings. Pulsars are so rare around here that it's hard to find anything in a salvage yard that's worth messing with. The head that came off my parts pulsar suffered severe damage from a blown head gasket and the head of my DET had the tiniest valves that ever came in the CA heads because it was one of the very first generation of the CA18DET's made. So I'm in search of to good heads, one for the turbo sentra build and one for the 200. Well I'm glad you guys like my car, I'll keep you updated as I progress!

I can normlly get the heads at my yard just they have been stripped of there ignition system. And if you are going to put on a different head you should just rebuild the bottom end to ensure you don't pop it when you put it on the road.

I will probably drop the oil pan and take a look at the bearings to see if they're in good shape, if so then I'll just make sure the deck is level on the block and put on the head. I'm not too concerned about rings, the compression check looked pretty good, about 175 on the first three and then about 160 on the 4th cylinder. Ignition is not problem, I was planning on doing some kind of aftermarket setup( haven't decided for sure though.

Cool! The turbine part won't be bad, I wanna see your GRB AND TRANSMISSION (suddenly your pulsar got very large).

if you ever get the time you need to do the kick ass ca20det that a few of us have conjured up. but in my thinking you'd have to use a standalone setup to make it work properly. Haltech is only $1300

I thought about it but I will run a stock bottom end for right now, the CA20 rods sre said to be weak compared to DE and DET rods so I didn't want to run too much of a risk by slapping a turbo on there. I was try to figure out what to do about a computer, think I'm gonna run a CA18DE ECU and see what happens, If I can find one...

The CA20 block is about 3mm taller than the CA18. You'd need to shave off 3mm to run CA18 rods. As it is, you'll either need to get a custom timing belt or shave the CA20 to get the CA18 timing belt to fit properly. Then you'd have to run the CA18 rods to keep the pistons from protruding out the top of the deck.

I think the CA20 head bolts are different than the CA18 so you'll need the CA20 bolts, you'll have to drill and tap holes for the timing belt tensioner but the block is already setup to be drilled/tapped for the tensioner.

I've got a spare head with intake and exhaust manifolds for FWD. The intake will work fine but the exhaust may be a problem on a RWD car. It's sitting at my brother's house in California. Let me know if interested, will sell it cheap...then there's the shipping. Also, it probably needs to be reworked (cleaned up, cut, valve job, new valve seals/cam seals.
