I have a ca18de in a 87 sentra and it runs ok but not like it should. It seams that when you apply the brakes or turn on the head lights the engine bogs down and starts to raise in revs and then back down. I was told this might be because of the air regulator? I took it off and sprayed the thing out real good but with no change. Also i checked it to see if it is getting any power and i get nothing. I checked the codes and i get a 14 and a 43. I look in the book and i see 14 is speed sensor. I do now see a 43 for this year and engine. i do see 43 for other years and engines and it is the throttle position sensor. This is also while the engine is running. When it is not running i get a 55. Which is ok. Please help me get this thing running great. I have noticed that the plugs are black like it is getting too much fuel. I have the best plugs avalible......ngk Iridium 0.4mm

if your engine bogs when you turn on your head lights check your alternator the voltage regulator or the diodes might be bad. Take it to auto zone and have them bench test it. Thats the only thing auto zone is good at.

I had it checked 2 months ago and everything was fine. It does not do it all the time. But it is a junk yard alternator it may be heating up and acting up.

Did you try disconnecting the the TPS and see if the problem goes away?
It will idle a little higher but the car will run. The ECU goes into closed loop w/o the TPS and uses a preset MAP inside, not the best (very rich) but it will cure any short term driveability issues. This is bad for the Cat and O2 sensor. Basically if you unplug the TPS and the problem goes away then you probably need a new TPS, or the wiring harness needs to be replaced going into the TPS, they sit in a spot that is not electrically friendly...

I have done this befoe and it did fix the idle from going up and down when i come to a stop light. I thought this was bad for it and pluged it back up. Since this part is so high i did not get a new one. Just woundering what would make it burn rich now. And why is idle going up and down? is it the TPS or something else?

Code 43 is the throttle sensor circuit aka TPS. If you want to do all the TPS troubleshooting procedures shoot me an email at mr_wig2003@yahoo.com and I'll send you the diagrams from the FSM.
