High Energy Electronic Ignition

I don't see much discussion about experimenting with high energy electronic ignition systems. Anyone out there fooling around with something like Pertronix Ignitor II with a Flame Thrower 45KV coil?

I have a 85 Sentra, federal model E16, with one of those foolish Crank Angle Sensor distributors that relegates spark timing to the blasted ECU. (I am sick and tired of frustrated mechanics suggesting that it may be the computer. BULL! I want to wean myself from that puppy. ) To mount an Ignitor, I guess I'd need a Cali carb with vacuum advance, but there is some guy up in Everett, WA buying up every one of those things he can get his hands on.

I'd love to hear from the Toddler, and here's my pledge: If I'm successful at this conversion, I'll write up the results to share with the forum. Feel free to talk me out of this if I'm heading for a headache and am just too naive to know better.

Lightbulb Guilty as charged...

Welp, I was doing a lot of that until the Everett Pull-A-Part closed down Feb. 28. I think I got another one here you can have for free, if I can find it. I have no use for it. I'll even help hook it up. You not only bypass the computer hubris, BUT: You also eliminate the power transistor, too! Can't lose...

Lightbulb How it works:

Here's the skinny on the project:

After you have the Cali distributor installed, you then take its two leads and attach them to the coil: The black lead goes to the + terminal on the coil, the blue goes to the - terminal (Sounds backwards, but that's how the wiring diagram reads). With your voltmeter, check to see which power transistor lead produces 12 volts with the key 'on' and fabricate a lead to go from it to the coil + terminal. And make sure you got the ground lead attached from the distributor to the left engine bay. That's all!

Oh, almost forgot: Pluck the hose off the 'vacuum boost sensor' on the right side of the engine bay, reroute it to the vacuum advance can, plug 'er in and that's all!
