I'm buying a 87 Sentra hatchback 5spd for 300 dollars. 110k miles, needs new clutch. Can anyone please give me info about the specs for the engine? I'm not gonna be doing any mods to this it's just my beater. My real car is a 92 Nissan 240sx se 5spd with a blown engine and i'm in the middle of building the ka24de-t.
yes one was .But the other is TBI the way you can tell quick like is look at the top of your air cleaner. if you have one wig nut ,is a carb, two you have TBI.
the diffrents is 1 HP and better throttle response. not much to notice I think.

The carbureted version is the E16s, with one air cleaner nut; The TBI version is the E16i, with two air cleaner nuts. Essentially, the engines are identical in all aspects. Fuel injection was an option for the '87, and became standard equipment in '88.
I've had better luck with the fuel injection; Less piddly little problems and more consistent than carburetors. TBI isn't as confusing as it may seem...I managed 44 mpg once with my wife's old '88 Sentra. Plus: TBI has less hosework and crap than carbs. BIG plus!
The only pissy difference between '87 and '88 TBI: the '87 uses a 3-wire O2 sensor ($70 or so); The '88 uses a one-wire O2 sensor ($25 or so). Wouldn't you know it? I got an '87...

Oh so true.... That was the only issue when I put the 88 16i into my 87 SC. Of course I didn't bother to notice until AFTER the motor was in. Had to swap the bungs on the manifold which cake on a motor sitting on the floor but a royal PITA when it's bolted in the chassis.
Hi
Mine was carburated (electronically assisted carburetor) but it had lots of vacuums and was impossible to get a decent idle or performance... Distributor was optic and worked as a crankshaft position sensor too (no centrifugal advance )
One day I got really psd of and dumped all electronics and vacuums and installed a mechanical carburetor and a nissan magnetic distributor with centrifugal advance, don't remember which model it came from
It was like night and day!
I recomend this swap to get more fun from your e16
