I have a very retarded 87 Nissan Pulsar. It has no power at all and I cant get going over 55 and then it takes me like 5 minutes to hit that. I have chaged the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, cadalitic convertor, tested the fuel pump, and tried fuel system cleaner. All helped a lil bit but no change really. I want to go fast. Any ideas what may make it work? I have searched the forum and cant find anything. Oh yeah its fuel injection. Anything besides that I have no clue cause I am very car retarded. Anyone want to buy one?? It has brand new tires, exhaust, and all that other stuff. I am gonna beat it up pretty soon so please help me.

If you were in phoenix i'd buy it. Well...if its an E16 motor that might be normal...they aren't very fast. Either way, i'd check out the throttle linkage, could be just as simple as the throttle not opening all the way.

And e-series aren't THAT slow, I do 105mph everyday to work on the freeway.
just remember how long it takes to get there my 87 pulsar would do 120 downhill.....115 flat land...and with the tops off 110 flatland and 105 with my hand out the top i think it took me half a mile to get up that fast though.
good point about trany though....if its an auto thats tired then it could be slipping its way up to speed. if its a stick...i suppose clutch could slip but thats a lot easier to feel.

It's a stick.Well I got it fixed and sure enough it was something stupid. The vacuum lines were off and it was making it be retarded. My tranny is dry so now I am working on finding the fill hole. Thanks for all the help.

sorry, have to get a little off topic today. E16, great engine, just slow. Although i've always wondered how a nissan E16i could never compete with the toy 4AGE. Yeah dual cam and mpfi compared to single cam tbi......but you'd think it woudl be close. Well after some research i found out that toyota designed the 4A on the ford cosworth race engine. But nissan kicked ass with a few more cc's and another cam CA18DE

I got just one word for ya: Dodge 318 with 4-barrel and mild cam
OK, more than one word...
I love the E16: Very tough, reliable, economical, forgiving, hearty, user-friendly engine. I got one in my Pulsar, two in pieces in my storage locker, one in an '85 wagon which will get yanked, and one on the way. I plan on staying E16 for as long as possible. They rule!

my 88 had no third gear but still got to its 105 mark with ease and as u all know the odometer reset would be about 115 and i can let off the gas for a while and still be pegged out on it very slight downhill and sometiems flatland, one time i kept it peged out for a good 10 minutes and my gas and temp guage just... stopped workin the needles dropped but whatever i kept goin, when i got home i took my key out put it back in and turned the car on , did that a few times and they started workin again, very cool i want another one
haha! Yeah, the E16 is definitely no rocket! I've had 2 of them and I think my top speed was always somewhere around 90mph. These things are somewhat reliable but they definitely aren't fast. Well, the may be a bit quicker if you do something to them but stock they aren't fast at all. The only E16 engines I've seen had a carburetor. Were there versions with fuel injection and if so were they a bit faster? If I'm not mistaken the carbed E16 had estimated 70 horsepower when new. That's pretty damn slow! LOL!
The E16s (Carb) and the E16i (TBI) are separated by only one horse, TBI sporting the advantage. If you wanna rocket, I suggest going with the CA16DE, the CA18DE, the GA16DE or the SR20DE. You'll be happy there. I have been 120 with my E16i with room to spare and no complaints...and getting terrific mileage to boot. Sounds like your E16 needed a rebuild...

theoretically the tbi had a broader torque band so maybe 1 horse difference and similar torque but flatter curves. But i've never seen a dyno sheet and who's gonna shell out the dough to find out. it would make sense though the fuel injection would have a better power curve even with same numbers.
