Question Cams for my GA16DS

Yes you were not wrong, I own a nissan sentra b13 1997 made in mexico, it comes with the GA16DS engine (1.6, DOHC, carburated), I think this engine also came with some old NX1600.

The thing is that I have looked almost everywhere for some performance cams for this engine and I haven´t been lucky, I asked the guys on JWT and they have cams only for the US Spec GA16DE (variable valve timing on the injection wich my car doesn´t have).

Well my engine has some mods (mentioned on a previos thread), her`'s a pic of the engine

and I was wondering if you know where can I get cams for this type of engine, or if you know someone who can custom design them

Thx.

That thing was to get cold air into the carbs velocity stacks, cause on a dyno run the temperature registered at that point was almost twice the normal temperature.

But hey, I'm still waiting for your help with the cams.

Regards

Then you need an airbox around your carb stacks to get some cold air...

Like Slacky posted, the GA16DE cams from JWT should work. I dont see why not, it's exactly the same as the US spec engine cept it is carb and no VTC. The JWT cams work better on US spec B13/14's if the ECU are tuned by them(JWT). In my understanding, the VTC is a hindrance to the JWT cams performance potential. Reason why JWT tuned ECU eliminated/relocated some of the advance/retard VTC operation points to get better area under the curve. In many ways, your GA16DS is the best candidate for the JWT cam upgrade. No need for a tuned ECU. This is BTW my own analysis, and I do not have any proof if it will work or not. Best person to ask probably Mike Kojima(Nissan Guru). BTW how much HP and torque your car is making? Very nice I might add.

Thx for your comments Mervic, about the JWT cams, I was planning to buy them but before investing us$ 560 I asked the JWT tech people if the cams could work with my engine (previous description of course), and the answer was: NO!!!!! They’ll only work with the US Spec GA16DE engine, that was the reason I didn’t buy them.

But if Mike Kojima says the opposite I’ll be glad to invest that money, buy the way, Does he writes on these forums??..... or what about the forum’s GA16 experts, I’ll appreciate your comments.

Mervic, If I’m not wrong the last dyno run I did resulted in 136 HP, I haven’t yet measured the torque but I will soon.

Regards,

PS: if my car has a GA16 engine why is it here¿¿??

Mike Kojima definitely post here and probably at most forums. His forum name is morepower2. JWT probably said that it will not work with your engine cuz they probably never tested/installed their cam to a non US spec GA16. Your best bet will be to write to Sarah Forst of Nissan Performance Mag about the similarity of the US and your GA16DS and if the cams from either engine can be used. You can find here E-mail at Nissan Performance Magazine, at Ask Sarah column.
