E16 motor smoking

Hi,

I recently overhauled my sentra 1.6 carb motor, doing the rings bearings and cylinder head. The prob i'm having is that everytime u start the car up it smokes being bluish in colour. After startup no smoke. If u drive normally there is no smoking. If let to idle and then rev it it smokes as well also bluish white in colour. I also have a little oil in the air cleaner box, but is not bad more like a smear of oil. And the air filter is still dry. I still need to do a compression test today to check the motor out, but my gut feeling is telling me that either the guides or valve stem seals are leaking. Any thoughts.

had that same problem since my rebuilt too ... problem on mine is that i was blowing up a few valve seal from the guide... IMO i didnt gap the piston rings correctly and might be getting to high of compression on the middle cylindres ... As i gapped the first piston rings (they were mostly perfect without any adjustment) i taught they were all the same so i didnt mind too much about the other 3 ... if you dont have like me 2 valve spring on, you might be able to look at them just by opening the valve cover...

I could also be too much oil in the pan ... i do get smoke a lot when i change my oil ... as i fill the 4litre completely into the engine ... and smoke like hell in the 1st week...(tends to clean the carbon build up !! lolllll)

i'd deff say valve seals also, especially if it consumes a lot of oil

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I did a compression test last night and all the cylinders are 12bar. Which is good. I also preformed a wet test, resulting in only a minor increase in pressure uptp 12.5. So i guess i'm going to have to see if any of the stem seals are loose, otherwise strip the head off.

I don't know if any good wrencher has ever told ya: All new or rebuilt engines burn some oil during break-in. So, with that in mind: (a) How'd you break-in your car? (b) How many miles now? (c) How much oil being used...quart per ??? miles? Lemme know... --RT
