OK, So. I have my new GA15i motor installed, timing is ok. Fuel pressure is OK. Spark is OK. But... It won't start. I get backfire from the exhaust end, If I try to crank it long enough I get backfire out the top end. Ether produces a more vigourous backfire, but no go. What is up!!??!! I now have new plugs and a new battery, but still, no go. What am I missing here!!

Yeah man was having the same prob with my ga16de I got out of 96 xe and came to figure it out that I had the wrong ecu (i think theyre model specific B13 anyways) so I used a 92 head I had and swapped in the 96 cams pity though the 96 head is more efficient like 5 more ponies but it seems to me that your car doesnt seem to be getting any spark. Have you chacked that?
Yeah man, I have checked spark, though not recently. It's got it. Have you still got my phone #/ the time tomorrow? 540-490-7325. Gimme a ring!

It's hard to say. When you bump the engine over a few times, and then pull out your plugs, do you find them to bet wet? If not, you might have a fuel delivery problem. Otherwise, if they are wet, and you're certain you're getting spark (and this makes more sense since you crank it for awhile before getting a backfire), you might have a compression problem. Take a compression tester to those puppies (and by puppies, I mean cylinders) and try that out. If you DO happen to have compression, fuel, and spark, and your timing is correct, well, let's see what happens with this first.

The answer is... I'd never adjusted valve lash before...
The solution was (rather than learn something new) rebuild my automatic adjusters from my GA16i and swap them into the GA15e. This may wind up being a bad solution but it's been working fine so far...
