auto filter change problems

i was taking out the tranny filter in my e16iand one bolt wouldnt come so after pulling and turning it finally came, now it wont thread in. its not as thoughi stripped anything because it came out by hand

another thing is that when i stuck my finger inside to see if i could feel out the problem, there was a gap where the end of the bolt comes to. almost as though there was a nut there in that little gap but nothing came out during dissasembly.

has anyone ever changed the filter on an auto e16 before??? did this happen to you?

if noone can answer this then maybe someone could tell me if leaving that bolt out would be too bad. theres like 10 other bolts including one only a centemeter away. plus if it leakes, itll only leak into the pan anyways so i dont think itll be bad

Check this thread. It's for a later model, but probably is similar to yours.

You've got to take the valve body out. The nut is resting on top of it.

The FSM has no procedure for changing a filter. As far as I know, there is only a screen, not a filter. It is used to catch large particles and is serviced only when the trans fails.

So did I when I changed the fluid in the trans in my car the first time. After I replaced the valve body and was re-assembling everything, I noticed that the pan has a drain plug.

I think it's some kind of sick Nissan initiation rite.
