Quick question - What the heck is this part??
I'd ask my regular mechanic, but they're not open from fri-tues.
Go figure
Anyhow, as if all the smoke/ash from this summers forest fires havent
banged up my engine enough, now this lil part is all chewed up looking,
and has a huge rip thru the center of it, and its leaking something that
looks suspiciously like oil :\
If anyone has any info on this mystery part ...lemme know!
That's for your warm air induction to help the engine warm up a little quicker, take the lid off of your air cleaner and tell me if there's oil all over the place cuz I think there is. If so, you probably have a bad PCV valve and are trying to burn off a bit of oil under normal driving.

Air cleaner = the place where the air filter is?
If so, then its not :\ It was checked yesterday, and the only
problem with that was the amount of ash inside, because the
wingnuts didn't have plugs underneath them :\
I'm more worried about what that part is called, so I can perhaps
get a new one to last me until Tuesday. Hmm
It's seriously just ripped all to hell, there isn't anything holding the bottom
piece to the top piece - is it possible that it is leaking itself? O.o
That's wierd, I can't think of the oil coming from anywhere else, the name of the hose is "hot air duct", it's for the automatic temperature control system.
I've purchased this part before from Autozone, if you have one where you are. They are pretty common, but take the old one with you. There is usually no clamp holding the part on to the breather assembly (where it connects to the top) or the exhaust manifold shroud (the other end), although I've found it's easiest to replace if you go ahead and install clamps on both ends. The part is pretty cheap, The oil is most likely coming from the valve cover (pretty common)

If you look at the picture closely, it looks like there is a considerable amount of grime around the spark plugs, which would indicate the valve cover leaking oil. From my knowledge (and since MRS already covered the PCV system and that's not the culprit) I'd say that's the likely source of oil leakage.

If you end up replacing that gasket, go ahead and adjust the valva lash while you're in there and don't forget to put on new grommets where the studs go through the valve cover.
I have never had that piece of hose on my e16 the entire time I've had it (almost 10 years now). How bad is it to not have that part? Is it that necessary? Would I notice any improvement in the engine if I put one on?
That pipe brings hot air into the intake when the engine is cold and helps it to warm up faster. I would think you would notice a difference in the winter mainly. You aren't going to hurt anything by not having it on there, but if you drive the car in winter, it isn't a bad idea to have it on there. They are pretty much universal and cut to fit, you should be able to find one at your local auto parts store. Just measure the diameter before you buy so you know it will fit.
in the first picture, the big corregated pipe you have circled is just the air intake's duct. Generally just enables the intake to pick up cooler air in an area away from the heat of the engine. Isn't going to hurt you not having it, could probably find one easily around here if you want to put it back on.
I don't know what that part is in your second picture ? I am not that familiar with that particular engine. almost looks like an AIV (air injection valve) pumps air into the exhaust for the convertor to help things burn cleaner (less emissions) .
watch out, if you get into sub-arctic temps with your sentra, you could run into a carb-icing problem if you don't have the heat-riser tube. on cold, humid days (frosty-type days), the intake air (if not heated) will form a ball of ice in you carb. it'll run like poop.

lol @ icy balls, yea thats true i had that happen cuuuus i went through a BIG puddle, thought it was hard enough ice to drive over... i was wrong but it kept running and eventually melted away from being stationary sucking up air warmed by the engine, took a while though
Would the thing in the second picture be called a Pre-Converter? I had it replaced several years ago. The car ran like crap all of a sudden. It would run for 10 minutes then it would be real sluggish like it was being choked to death. If I shut it off and let it rest it would start back up and run fine foe 10 more minutes. I thought my catalytic converter went bad. I took it to a shop and they said the part that is circled is what went bad. I think he said it was called a pre-converter. Anyway someone else is having what seems to be the same symptoms with their Pulsar and I was trying to remember what the part was called.
