as every one knows , im running a long block E15et with intake of E16i...
well recently, i smashed my downpipe a bit (2 inch exhaust) and busted out 2 nuts retaining my dump pipe to the turbo... this one got repaired, bought nuts and bolted back... the turbo started to blow lots of smoke (probably overboosting a lot my bad here) on idle and startup... it seem like the cars running on 3 cylinder in the morning after 10hrs of sleep... after a good wash (4000rpm) to get it back, it smooths out .... thats mostly about the turbo. wich i should change this weekend...
Since 2 days now, the car been heating a lot more thaugh, now reaching normal temp way faster than wath im used too with this engine (low temp thermostat) normally it would stick just below half way... but now its going almost to the line of HOT !! ...
Any of you got any ideas ???
Im about to blow the MF out of it
if i cant do anything , ill be changing over the block for an NA application ...

given the fact that you say it is heating up very fast, kinda sounds like a stuck thermostat ? Can you confirm it is opened once the motor heats up ? Does it stay at HOT or suddenly drop back down ?
to my knowledge, i bought a fail-safe one, and when i arrived later on today, the upper rad hose was pressurized.. so it should have been opened... its stays hot.. moving quite slowly maybe a mm or so up and down... at the 7/8 top of guage...
with the car running i putted my hand in from of the rad.. was cool were the fan is, and hot on the sides ... this is a brand new rad ive putted there 6 months ago...
i guess ill take the compression on the engine this week end see if i havent blown the headgasket (block is oringed :S)
Any other inputs ?? anyone ??

I've had issues with overheating an internal coolant leakage myself. could explain the seemingly dead cylinder and smoke. a little coolant in the cylinders tends to do a great job of removing any carbon it comes in contact with. kinda like an internal steam cleaner. that might be what your seeing ? definatley might want to start with the compression test... Good Luck ...
my last E16i went this route to die too ... bad thing i got a brand new head and a decked block :S anyway ill know only on saturday :S ill probably be testing the turbo tommorow to see if it could be it too ...

even though the radiator is 6 months old, be careful. I've cooked several engines by misunderstanding the warnings my radiator was giving me.
Try this:
start the car, let it sit and idle, does it get too hot? ( sign that it's a cooling system thing )
When the electric fan comes on is the air it blows consistantly hot, or are there hot and cold areas? ( plugged radiator pasages )
is there enough coolant in the system? ( this is where i mess things up... )
is the overflow tank filled properly? ( this is how the radiator regulates how much liquid is in it, you have to check the level when the car is warmed up )
It still could be a bad thermostat, but be careful!
I don't like the temp gauge on the dash because it doesn't tell you what is really happening.
evrything might also be related to my oil cooler :S ... that thing might be clogued too ... ill get more into it by tomorrow thanks B11sleeper ill go throu all this

i don't know that the oilcooler would do that, I dodn't notice much effect on my radiator temp when i added the oil cooler, I got the impression that i mostly made it so that the oil and water temps were more closley matched ( at around 190 degrees )
I'm sure you checked the oil for water and the water for oil? Also, if it's leaking into the cylinder you would lose coolant and you can smell it in the exhaust.
thats mostly wath i think it can be ... but it drops so slowly that ists very hard to smell actually ... cant wait for tommorow as ill be fixed on the problem... ill test compression and before anything ill stick some giant Q-tips up the plugs to see if any liquids are there ... good lord i hope its not that :S but as i remember .. the guy that did my oring said : dont torque it twice or the head gasket might be broken.. thats wath i did but on the oem gasket wich need twice torquing... i might try to retork the thing aswell before getting the engine out (if crap it is)
Btw i just got up a trade with a friend here : my winter beater (cougar) for a set of 16in 5zigen imperio cant wait to get them on the car
