CA18DE coil packs; Stupid ghetto rig

Well I did some tuning this weekend. Pulled plugs thinking I was rich due to poor fuel economy. Nope just fine.

3 things;

Did find I had two copper pegs in place of coils in 2 of my coil packs which were fried. I think this is the source of a recent low rpm part throttle miss I am getting. I got some near equivalent springs from hardware store; Probably not best idea but coil-packs run for $150 down here. Exactly how ghetto is this?

Also found exhaust cam cover is sweating oil badly onto plug wells. I thought I was up shits creek when I pulled the coil-packs, and saw #1 & 2 plugs covered in oil. Hopefully I put enough high-temp silicone to fix it for awhile. Any more permanent fixes? These are new seals up top all the way around.

Fuel fumes inside car. Can't figure source for the life of me. Been over whole exhaust, and fuel system.

Why not try and get an MSD coil pack, or are they not the same thing?

About the oil in the plug wells, I think I might know the solution. The Supra I used to have was DOHC with the two seperate valve/cam covers and the spark plugs running in the middle. The gaskets on the cam covers were blown and the cam covers were not tightened down enough, letting oil into the spark plug valley, which then seeped into the plug chambers. To solve the problem permanently, you just need to get a new gasket for the cam cover, replace it, and tighten down the cam cover to spec.

That solution isn't the most permanent, but it should hold you over for a while.

They still leak.

Got a guy in Joe-burg looking for cheap spares for me. I don't know how economical it would be to ship coil packs to Cape Town South Africa. Seems like it would'nt, thanks for the offer.

Car is running a lot better with no missing, and better fuel economy. Will take it all apart this weekend, as I don't exactly have confidence in the conductive properties of hardware store coils, just a funny hunch.

Just found out. Apparently all my coil packs have been rigged. Oh well. if it aint broke...
