Help my 87 pulsar start...

hi, I have a 1987 pulsar and a 1983 pulsar. The engine in the 87 was bad so my girlfriend's dad took the motor out and put the 83 motor in. This is her car by the way. He has everything hooked up but the motor won't start. He said the only thing he needs to know is where the starter cylinoid is. The chiltons manual does not show where it is located. When the ignition is turned there is a click in the stearing column. So I believe that the circuit is getting from the battery to the stearing column, but i don't know where it goes after that. the starter doesn't even engage. Please help. she really wants a car. and she loves this little pulsar...

The solenoid is on (attached to) the starter, the cylinder about the size of a single serve V8 juice can.

Thanks, her dad said that this model doesn't have the cylinoid on the starter, it is somewhere else in the car...i don't know what he means

Never seen an older Nissan with a remote solenoid...like the old Fords.

Looks like they all have the solenoid mounted on the starter. This one lists fitting an '83 Pulsar.

Hey, thanks alot for the pictures. that was a big help. i'll let you know how it goes once we try to fix this problem. you know how it is, once you fix one thing something else goes wrong...
