What mods can i do to an '85 200sx turbo (ca18et)???
Im just looking for ideas of what i should do with the engine in my 1985 200sx turbo (sohc 1.8L turbo) i thought i heard something about putting a pulsar head on it, possably bolting up a ca20 intake manifold these are just some things i have heard, i would like facts... the engine is going into my 1989 240sx coupe
mx3 con la KL? Please tell me more... if u have to, pm me? had to have had a pretty big shoe horn to get that bad boy in there.
Nope this is a standard swap, that gets about 190 hp iirc. I've seen it in sport compact car. Those 1800's sixes are really destroked 2.5's.
Must be a little torque monkey that thing.
Why not just get a CA18DET? I mean CA18et is good for 125hp stock iirc. KA24E is good for 135hp and lots more tq. I dunno too much about what heads, and bell housings match up and stuff sorry.

Actually the 1.8L v6 looks almost exactly the same but is different in almost every way, the KL03 (2.5L) block is 1.25 inchs longer than the KL08 (1.8L) plus there are many many other differences. The 2.0L v6 GS-R motor is a destrocked KLZE which is the same as the KLO3 accept for compression ratio. and it did take quite a shoe horn, but it was mostly straigh forward with wiring and fitment You will see the mazda on ebay in the next few days so keep your eyes peeled for a Purple GS with white 17s
I would like to kn ow if the late 80s DOHC pulsar head will bolt up to my ca18et, that would be the $H!T

yes it will but compression would be to high for the turbo.

There's a guy named ca18pulsar that has a DE head on a ET block. The only issues he had were different head bolt threads....I think he used the ET bolts....and some modification needed to mount the DE timing belt tensioner. Do a search on CA18ET, there's some good info on earlier threads.

and i think we've already confirmed that the gaskets are the same. and i forget what the D head is...i think 10:1 compression. thats kinda to high for boost, but if you aren't cranking out alot of boost you will probably be ok. just check things out everynow and then.

you've lost me on how just changing the head ups the compression 2.5:1 they are 7.5:1 stock
Changing the heads won't give you 10:1 compression. Compression is primarily a factor of the piston design, not the head. Consider that the CA18DE and DET have basically the same heads, the compression is reduced from 10:1 to 8.5:1 by a different piston design.
You shouldn't have to worry about increasing your compression to dangerous levels simply by swapping on a different head.

hmm, the CA18ET stock has what, 8.5:1 compression?
anyone got any links on this tweak, cause I'm sure it could handle some more... at least up to 9-9.5:1?
myetball: maybe you have to do me the favor and get me a set of pistons aswell

Whoah....settle down there....I don't know that pistons would be interchangeable. I recently took a bath in muck and sludge pulling an oil pan from the junkyard. I'm thinking pistons would be one helluva job.
Anyway, if you're looking for more power out of your ET, just make or buy a manual boost controller and crank up the boost a bit. Much more cost effective than swapping pistons.

Id change the head, because thats smart to do anyway, i dont care to change pistons at all, im also not one for just turning up boost, i like supporting mods
ok, now i feel dumb, i thought the combustion chambers on the DE were smaller than the ones on the ET, therefor more compression...unless they are the same combustion chamber
