I replced my motor this weekend with a rebuilt one and my valves seem to be out of adjustment. You cann hear a top end rattle. being the amateur mechanic I am I have no idea how to adjust these things. Are there any good manuals or could someone post up a procedure. Any help would be great.
Thanks for the tips. I still am not exactly sure what I need to adjust. I use a feeler gauge to find the clearance between the top of valve and the rocker arm?
yep, you need to get a flat head screwdriver and a 14?mm wrench to losen up the adjusting bolt. make sure your at TDC though, on my old E16s one exhaust valve was set completely closed all time because someone backed the bolt out all the way obviously not knowing what they were were doing and the engine is dead now. hope that helps.

Thanks again,

To set it at TDC you should allign the marks on de cranks shaft damper with 0 degrees on the timing cover, you could also check through the spark plug hole. And adjust the first 4 valves then turn on complete revolution until you get to the 0 degrees mark, and the adjust the remaining valves.

that doesn't make sense...have it on 0...then turn it around to 0 again. thats the same place. nevermind...haha, i figured out what you're trying to say. ok...get number 1 cyl at TDC on the compression stroke. Compression stroke the valves for that cylinder will be closed. adjust the valves for number 1 cylinder...and the intake valve on cylinder 2 and the exhuast valve on cylinder 3. Then get 4 cyl at TDC on compression stroke and adjust the rest of the valves. And i feel generous so i'll tell you that engine warmed up the clearance is .011" (.28mm) Also, you'll want to get a gasket set for the rocker cover
